Mode7ex Question
Before I really mess w/this extension, I was curious as to the capabilities of Mode7ex. Can it make a game in the style of Doom? Or the viewport extension, would this work? My concern is obstacles such as walls that you cannot walk through and multiple floors via stairs, jumping, elevators, etc. Doubt it can handle that but it's worth a shot to ask.
Just wondering about their capabilities as I'd like to do something in the style of an old-school first person game.

Re: Mode7 Question
Mode7 is old and hidieusly slow, if ported to HWA it would probably run fine, but who would care about porting that lol

Re: Mode7 Question
Mode 7 was a fantastic extension... I never understood why it was never ported to MMF2 :(

Re: Mode7 Question
im sorry I should've been a little less vague, i mean Mode7EX for MMF2 from the Bonus Pack 2

Re: Mode7 Question
Mode 7 was great!!
Anything that helped create Mario Kart for the snes (not to mention plenty of other games) gets plenty of thumbs up off me :)

Re: Mode7 Question
Mode7Ex (which is better than Mode7) can't create nice looking Doom like but it can allow you to create MarioKart like. ;)

Re: Mode7 Question
Well it would be great if anyone can make a HWA version but I doubt anyone can be bothered, it would take a long time to re-write that =/

Re: Mode7 Question
what i would really like to do is make a game that moves like doom, but combine it with a game like myst in the sense that you explore, solve puzzles etc, a horror themed game, now I know MMF2 is optimized for 2D games, but who knows, nething is possible with a decent extension and lots of trickery ;)

Re: Mode7 Question
well it's sort of possible since mode7 has voxel support, though you'd obviously miss out on texture support
i wonder whatever happened to all the 3D extensions that were in development

Re: Mode7 Question
yeah, particularly the Irrlicht engine, it's developer seems to have disappeared based on threads ive read.
i know mmf2 is 2d, but i really dont understand if the SNES could do games such as Doom, why MMF2 can't.
texture support is not necessarily a necessity but would speed up the process greatly. I guess when I get home from work I'm going to play around with Mode7Ex and Viewport Rotation.
