directShow and activeX why no mouse click sensing

hello I have a question

why does the mouse click on object not work with directShow or activeX objects? It would be great to be able to click on these objects. The mouse can detect being over the objects, but even then user clicks does not seem to work...

also the activeX objects do not have values/strings/flags associated with them the way other mmf objects do

while I can put those values in an another object, it makes it more difficult to deal with an objects properties events list (making a 'widget' for example)
