Particle effects

I'm uploading this particle system pack file, that is a compilation of very nice particle effects I've found in this and the old forum. I added effects like snow and rain, changed some of the examples and made simple particles and emitters for uniformity. Most examples are commented with its original comments but some aren't credited (I don't remember who made it and his/her name wasn't on the comments or anywhere on the file). So if your example is here feel free to post here or change the file and credit yourself.

I'm looking forward to add to this library more useful partile effects and of course, anyone is more than welcomed to contribute adding effects, ideas and so on.

All these effects apart from the firework and the Fire3 effects are really poor.
And I think I've seen the Fire3 effect somewhere else, but that might have been you who made that aswell.

Anyways, those two were kinda cool.

Poor or not, any decent particle system SHOULD have them.

This is a very nice contribution.

EDIT: Well... After testing it, I've hopped that you'll post what was seen in the video... The effects are really some basics ones...

Yeah, that video was slightly strange, as the effects in the file are quite awful. I think Fire 3 is the only slightly decent one.

Rain and snow for example, were very poor.

Guys... I'm looking to update this file with more advanced effects as I'm studying the sin cos thing, and make this library more complete. But since I'm getting only discouraging comments, I'd better leave it as is.

Eh dont listen to them, I'll check this out when I get home. Particle effects are kinda difficult to work with, just keep working at it till you are impressed w/it.

Even though the examples might not be eyecandy, the pictures and video sure is, and I'm sure you've encouraged lots of people to experiment with particles now! I, for instance, sat all yesterday night trying to make some neat effects :)
I think if someone produce the content of the video in MMF, and shows how easy it can be done, that would be great commercial for Clickteam!

Okay... thanks piscesdreams and Popcorn. I wasn't going to give up of particles, but give up posting the results. I updated the graphics of the examples so they look more attractive and encourage others to experiment and post results. I added some experimentation here, I'm looking for some way to add forces like gravity in the "simple spread" example... any help is appreciated. I'll update with more experimentation later on... Thanks.
ps: The "simple spread" is based on an example of 360 degree shooting I got from the forum.

Thanks everyone. Seems that people likes to see effects with good graphics, rather than raw images. Anyway, time for an update...

I already had the code to make it orbit, but I can't figure out how to insert an angle variable to make it spin/rotate, while keeping the orbit movement using another object as center.

SEELE, wow that's cool.. I'll take a look later on how I can use the flying dots into a nice particle effect! :D thanks!

you'll notice that differently aspected ships will have differently orbiting construction bots; the shipyard has an orbit very similar to the 45 degree one, shown above.

You have an event that goes like:
* Alterable Value Z of Spark = 1
+ Only one action when event loops

...instead of just putting the actions within:
* On loop "create"

I'm not sure what the purpose of the additional event is.

Heh I made the fire 3 effect. I was thinking of making a more universal particle system that could be used for many types of effects but I'm too busy at the moment really.

It might be worth considering making particle widgets with your effects as well. Here's a very basic one I created, it's pretty expendable. Unlike yours, mine isn't impressive from a visual point of view, but the way I programmed it has it's uses...

Yes I love that one! Thanks Nifflas! But how will I make More particles being created? Like depending on how long the mouse key is being held ,more particles are created. But if you, for example, use a particle for a collision then very few particles will be created.

You can use fastloops to trigger the creation of many particles at the same time. Particle creation is not up to the widget itself. When you want to create new particles on collision, you have to add that feature to the particle widget though.

Nifflas, that was fantastic! The way you've set the alterable values to change instability, X and Y gravity was brilliant IMO. I'll experiment some cool effects soon with you code :)

Sorry, this is a bit OT ...

I hope that users will pay more attention to the Widgets idea. It may not seem like much at first, but once you see the potential and the time and effort you can save, building that library could look more worthwhile.

I also feel that it is a playground for future potential. Sometimes we might find that certain features could be candidates for built-in ones or extensions, later on. Also, if the idea is explored and proves to be useful, maybe MMFx will expand on the capabilities and scope of what Behaviors provide.

While many of us don't or can't create extensions, we can create pre-programmed objects using Behaviors creatively.

Be it widget or not, I hope users makes experiments with particles or tweak codes and share with us interesting results. I'd rather prefer to not use extensions for particles, as we can have excellent results using widgets or playing with coordinates, loops, and so on.
Widgets, non widgets, it's all good for me :D
