(Science Madness)
This is the game I might submit for the "Twenty Events" competition... java version!
Beware, there's no fine collisions, hope this is fixed in the next 248 build.
There's also a graphic glitch with the Scores... I dont know how to get rid of it (works fine in non-java)
There's 14 events so far.
Can you give me feedback? thanks!
Re: Twenty Events submission game in Java
Fantastic. And 14 events, that is good.
I think I was getting the same score glitch in one of my apps, and I've found some strange wrong collision appearing by my backdrops, maybe the same problem.
Nice game and very retro :)
Re: Twenty Events submission game in Java
Hey Andy, how are you? long time since I chat with you :)
Thanks for your nice comments. About the glitch... I first had the glitch with the "Life" object, then I resized the object horizontally and the glitch's gone. Then I had the same glitch with the String object (the one that shows "+10" when you reach a new ladder) and then I resized the object horizontally... and again, the glitch's gone. But this one (the score) no matter what I do, the glitch's still there.
I think I never had this problem before (KP, TGF, CnC, MMF1.0-MMF1.5), but I can recall that I never abused of the "Layer" object before, so maybe its the object to blame? (i had other issues with the layer object like this one;(http://www.clickteam.com/epicenter/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=83198#Post83198 )
but Yves says it is already fixed.
Im very enthusiastic about the java runtime, and I'll try to make all my games java-friendly :)
Re: Twenty Events submission game in Java
It works perfectly on an Intel Mac, OSX Leopard.
This is a great game. I wondered that there are transparent objects and I could see everything correctly. Or this is normal? (Only the alpha channels are problems?)
And yes, I will also try to make Java-games! This will be an amazing feature!
Re: Twenty Events submission game in Java
I'm probably just a horrible jumper, but I kept falling! :)
Re: Twenty Events submission game in Java
Im glad to hear that it works fine on a Mac, thanks! :)
It seems that the problem with transparency are with Quick Backdrop objects in this version 248, hope this is fixed in the next build.
Im not using MMF ink effects in this game, but re-processed some of the MMF clip-arts and convert them in PNG format with 50%-75% opacity.
However, I notice that by not using the normal ink effects provided by the engine, the project file grow a lot bigger... maybe the PNG opacity info took this chunck of file space ?
The final compression works as good as with the non-png graphics anyways, so no harm done... actually, works better :)
Re: Twenty Events submission game in Java
Ricky, the game was so easy that I had to make it a little harder lowering the speed of the character, the gravity for the jump, etc....
The box collision in the java version, makes the game even more painfull :) (it is more "easier" in the non-java version)
However I think I have to move the ladders a little closer to the platforms...

by doing that - its not fun - its cumbersome. change other things rather than the main game mechanics to make it harder.
Re: Twenty Events submission game in Java
I know, 20 events is a real challenge :) Can you give me an example of what other things of the game can be changed? Do you think the character has to be more faster and jump higher in this game?
thanks for your feedback!
Re: Twenty Events submission game in Java
Will it still work in the standard Build of MMF, because I want your 20 event entry to be accepted, if it is only going to work in the Java or HWA builds then it won't be accepted, I don't see why it wouldn't but I wanted to mention it regardless!
14- # - Your entry will consist of a single MFA file produced using the latest non-beta build of MMF/TGF or the MMF/TGF demo version. (Currently that is build 247)
