This is very difficult to use. I wish there was some way to pick a specific instance of an object, or pick all objects, or pick the object that's just been collided with, etc.
The "Pick object" functionality needs to be greatly expanded.
I don't know if this could be helped with an extension maybe?

All things you described can already be done. I've never had any real problems with it.
Yes, but in complex events things can get tricky and counterintuitive, particularly if you throw qualifiers into the mix.
One thing that seems to help if you have trouble picking objects is the Spread Value function, which gives every object a different (consecutive) alterable value.
