I just purchased a macintosh computer, and I was wondering, is there a version of MMF2 for Macintosh? And if there's not, will there be a version soon? I know that you can buy windows vista or XP and install it on the mac, but I would prefer if there was a version specifically for the mac.
If you mean the the MMF2 itself, no. Applications generated by MMF2 can run on Mac using Java or Java+Melli's wrapper.

The easiest and safest way to get MMF running on a mac would be to use VMWare Fusion. Parallels will also work but I've had too much problems with it so VMWare Fusion will work much better.

You'll have to run Windows via virtual machine and open up MMF through windows.
I've been using MMF like this for a while now, its not very good for debugging though as it won't give you a very accurate look at how your game will be running on a native Windows OS, however it makes life easier for doing actual coding and sprite making.
I would very much like to see a MacOS version of MMF though as it would save me time of having to switch between Windows and Mac in order to compile a build for testing.
To answer the part of your question about if a mac version will be made soon, the answer is no. Yves and Francois have a long list of things to do to improve MMF and making a mac version is certainly not on that list.
And as for there being a similar product for mac, the answer is also no. Macs are simply not built for video game creation. Sorry. You have to understand the differences between mac and windows, and also WHY there is more than one brand of computer thriving on the market.
I'd pay up to $1000 for something like MMF but for mac. The click-to-code way of programing is the only way I've been able to make software. But, from my searching, there is NOTHING like this for the mac side.
I agree, I would pay a lot for MMF2 software for mac. But for now, I think I'll get VMware fusion, much easier than boot camp.
Well there's nothing MMF like but Unity is a very VERY good mac game creation application (that exports to windows executables and mac applications).
That is so not true. EA certainly has no issues making games for it, nor does Blizzard. Macs are perfect gaming platforms as they have only 3 variations in hardware requirements (similar to consoles) meaning debugging is much much easier. Granted we probably won't need a Mac version of MMF because it can already make use of Bootcamp and Virtual Machine software. So you can run it in MacOS anyway without the need for a new version.Quote:

I know about VMWare, Bootcamp, Parallels... but, the person has to also buy a license of Windows on top of that.
Running applications natively is what my wish is.
The Java runtime is the hope of that. As it matures and more objects become Java-ready, we'll have a better handle on what's possible cross-platform.

Some MMF users in another forum said a Mac native version of MMF is in development. Is that true, and is there an ETA for beta or release?

JAVA, Flash, HWA.. etc etc need to be completed first. We do hope to have a MAC version in the future, but there is no news at the moment.

yeah but this is guaranteed? AFAIK, there is a lot of stuff that Clickteam is looking forward to implement in a near future (XNA, Iphone, etc).
Is anything really, really guaranteed? Just see what happens. I am looking forward to it, just as I am looking forward to HWA finally being production ready. ;)
