Maybe I should not do this.
I apologise to everyone for asking dumb questions. I have held the belief that there are no DUMB questions. If you don't know the answer !!!!!!!!!!!! what then?
I have five illnesses that could kill me any day, not counting the BAD one. Old Age.
I am doing the best I can, so if the forum thinks I should leave, I will. I accept Dragonguy's apology.
Write to me personally and tell me to get off, if that is what is wanted.
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
Leaving the forum is definitely last thing you want to do! Compared to other users on the forum, you are courteous and friendly and we enjoy helping you.
I think it's great that you're doing something with your life even at your age, rather than just sitting around twiddling your thumbs. Dragonguy isn't the most experienced member of the forums and he doesn't seem to think before he posts.
Please don't leave because of anything he said to you- we value your questions as much as the questions of any other member.
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
Oldguy everybody on the forums gets targeted (even Jamie targeted me just now).
My Point is this forum is here to help you and people being mean shoudn't stop it from helping you.
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
I love you for being old and programming
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
There really isn't such a thing as a stupid question. If you don't know the answer to something, and you think someone else may have the information you need, then go ahead and ask.
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
Personally, I'm confused why the lives object is linked to the actually game properties. Wouldn't make more sense to be able to change the lives by changing its properties? "There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers." my science teacher. I don't think what I quoted is what he meant, It wasn't very encouraging. This is why I tend not respond when I have the chance.
Questions are meant to be asked, answers are meant to be questioned, until at some point everything is critisised.
Excuse my poor grammer skills I can't remember everything.
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people and you old guy are not stupid so ask away.
Don't leave us, you're our hero!
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
Getting targeted is part of any forum experience. You have to just let it "roll off your back". Could be the person just is having a bad day, lacks social skills, has just had their first beer, or perhaps is a jerk.
Anyway, many times it may be the person does not fully understand what you are trying to build or your question fully etc... I have experienced it on several "different forums" at different times. The written word can be taken different ways by different people, it happens.
MMF is a great product. I just recommended it and the forum to another person at a book store this weekend who wanted to create a computer game for a high school biology class.
When I first started, and even still, I have/had DUMB questions. This is "the" best forum I have experienced in having a group of developers and users who are willing to help.
There are so many great extensions and more being developed that trying to keep up by yourself is impossible. You have to ask DUMB questions at times and let a more experienced user help you.
So don't get discouraged. Its part of a forum and social interaction, and part of each of us learning to work together.
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
Oldguy please don't leave the forum.
Just because you ran into a person who responded badly to your questions the vast majority of people enjoy you being here.
As someone above also said your our hero -- its true!
You have a wealth of life perspective and experiences and starting a new hobby of game creation is very interesting.
There are no dumb questions just dumb replies to valid questions.
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
so hey OldGuy how old are you anyways
no seriously it interests me
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
As everyone has already said, dont leave. We have all probably had some negative comments, unfortunatly the internet seems to make all that more possible.
Good luck and keep game making :D
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
I think we've reached a conclusion. No one wants you to leave or stop posting questions. :)
Re: Maybe I should not do this.
Hmm, your post struck me as WHA? Why would you feel that way? Whether you contribute or ask questions, I feel this forum has no limits for advice and help, the best thing is that when someone is too overworked or stuck on their own problem to help, there is always someone else to help answer a question, then if need be, you have the Clickteam to answer your questions, and they would never want you to feel that way. This is their business. [laugh]
So you might have to ignore a negative post or two... [laugh]
I don't know the history behind your dejection, but i can assure you that there are no stupid questions even the simplest of questions are important. If you don't understand something or you don't know something, it's just that, but you soon will understand no matter how many people need to help solve your problems. [laugh]
p.s.
I know this was concluded, just wanted to chime in, and send the point home. [smile]

Re: Maybe I should not do this.
Hopefully everyone has pretty much summed it up :D
