Help with 2d figher

I used the fighers that were in the libary I also made them walk fight and I used a nice camera system and every thing works nice.
:D

But the problem is that the collision between the two characters does not work as I want it do work :/
I have collision between the red figher and the golden figher that whould make them stop when the walk in to each other, but instead of doing that they walk over each other, why?
I tried to change "stop" to "bounce" but with the same results.

I also tried using two invisible objects that followd the players to make the invisible object to bump in to each other but the players only started to jump when they were not supposed to. :/

Maybe upload a file so I can look at it? :)

btw I can't find any example for a 2d figher (in MMF2) anywhere, does anyone know if it even exist an example for that? :O

Your red player jumps crazily because your hotspot in his right walking animation was off. Fix this by changing the hotspot to the center. To get the collisions to work the way you want, uncheck the "Use Fine Detection" box in the Runtime Options of your characters. :)

I'm going to have to do some serious 2 fightin/brawling for my game, one of the playable characters is a fighter and I have no idea how I'm going to program/code all that.

Perhaps this can be my next example file. A fighting game. Don't see too many tutorials on that. I'll see what I can do!

make a fighting/platforming hybrid with ledge grabbing example, or better yet explain how it could be done cause i'm no good at following examples I like to build things myself and understand what does what and why.

I've been thinking of developing some 2d fighting engine as of late and i guess i could make the player sprite punch and do all kinds of stuff but I'm more concerned about the AI of the enemies, i want them to doge, fight back, have some brains to them and that's something i can't do or wrap my mind around how it could be done in MMF.

Another thing, I want only the fists, feet and heads when used in battle to deal damage and not the whole body to deal damage, I assume this could be done with invisible objects being created at the right coordinates for the fighters when certain animations are playing and destroyed as soon as the animation is over, but wouldn't that eventually become too messy and difficult to follow when executing more complex moves?

Wouldn't it be awesome if we had an engine like a "Cadillacs and Dinossaurs" example?
In my opinion, this was the best fighting game ever. You could even play with 4 players at once on screen! It used an improved Final Fight engine! Both games are from Capcom. I also like the Double Dragon engine, but I wonder if there's any around!

There's a new problem when the characters hit each other. The animation stops completely because of the collision, how can I fix this?
The animation also stops when they just walking in to each other... :(

I managed to do the hit/life system nice, but the problem with animation stopping is just ugly. :(

@Aloan: Awesome game. I'm hoping to have my beatemup done by the end of the year. It is heavily inspired by Capcom's early 90's games, especially C&D, Punisher and Battle Circuit. There are good examples out there for making these kinds of games if you are interested. If you look at each beatemup Capcom did, you can see that each game improves on the last, so they most likely iterated on the code to get a new game out each year. :) Once I have base code done, I hope to do something similar.

+1 vote Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was a great game, definately one of the best beat em up fighting games.

I'm sorry, but I guess that I'm not that experienced with MMF2 to know what XoR is, and I don't have a clue how to force the animation...

I have not used MMF2 for that long and I can't find that much information on this sort of game.

But i'm learning new stuff about MMF2 almost every day :grin:

Can someone help me? If I get help with this little part I guess I can figure most of the game out by myself.

Here you go. I commented the stuff I changed/fixed in the original file for you. I changed your hotspots to the feet of the characters, too. Hope this helps you. :)

I'll make an open source fighting game. I have one that was close to finished, I just have to tweak my code and add comments, the hardest parts. And I have to add an ending...

Thank you stephen1980 but when the animation instep is playing, the character that does the animation can walk through the other character. And sometimes they glitch in to each other...

Other than that it works perfect. :D

That's because I didn't add in all of the events. I was just showing you how to force the animations to play during a collision. ;)

Well there's a new problem.

The animation is forced to play, thats good :D but when the animation starts, the condition that does that they can't walk through each other stops to work... :(

Is it even possible (or how do I do) to make both conditions to work at the samme time?

At work so I can't check your file. Did you add a 2nd PMO object, and make sure to check for the collision for player 2?

yes, I did. And the conditions are the same as the first PMO (but changed for the other character ofc) so I can't really find a reason for it to not happen... :crazy:

Ahh, thankfully the fix was easy, in Ryu Move 2 - you have the PMO and the player sensor set to player one. Just change those to P2 and it works fine. :)

Well, you could use active objects instead of backdrops for the ground. Just need to test for collisions with those objects instead of the backdrop objects.

As for hitting them, I'd just use active objects as invisible collision boxes. For instance, you could create an invisible box at the end of a fighter's fist on the final frames of a punch animation. If the other player collides with the invisible box, do your events for them being punched, etc.

or, test your player sprite, hitting the enemies 'movement box' and that an attack animation is playing. You might also throw in a check to say something like, Attack punch is playing + frame of animation = 3.

And just re-produce the code I put in there for the original Ryu hitting the punching bag. Just pretend the punching bag is another player mover sprite.

Also, you might try using the semi transparency ink effect on the backdrops and set it to 100% or whatever to make them invisible. That should work.
