Hi!

The extension will have nothing todo with ray tracing, someone at click disc has gotten confused.
Ray tracing is used to render 2D and 3D geometries using emulated light rays, this is slow and not intended for real time use.
The extension is in fact a ray caster which means it uses an old technique used in game like wolfenstein and doom.. it involves making minimal collision tests within the visual frustum and then drawing segments of prerendered 3D sprites to look as if it were 3D...
it looks like this:

I'm the one making it and there must have been some kind of mistake. It's called the Raycasting Object... and yes, I know what I'm talking about :P
A Raycasting Extension sounds good but I personally would much rather use a Rendering Engine and use the Doom Models I have.
Anyway very Nice Extension.
why is it called the Raycasting extension anyway when it has nothing to do with raycasting?
It *is* a raycasting extension. I think you confuse raycasting and raytracing.
Raycasting is what Wolfenstein and Doom uses, Raytracing is what many realistic 3D renderers use.
It's a good news!
I don't matter the name of this extension (raycasting, raytracing, raywhatyouwant, etc.), I just can't wait to try it!
Is there some release/beta date?
We are working ferociously to make sure it is done ASAP, and I think you find it to be AWESOME!
I have some stuff left to do, but I'll try to get it done asap! :)
OMG I just had an org@sm. I cant wait for this to be finished.
.. Very interested! Any links, development screenies, etc?

Maybe check clickdisc.
Mel,
Their is a full report and a playable game using the engine on the August 2009 Issue of Klikdisc.

Meh, Raycasting and Raytracing are pretty much the same thing if you think about it.
Raycasting casts rays of light from the camera and when they hit some-things they render pixels.
Raytracing traces rays of light from the eye and when they hit some-things they each render a pixel.
No. Wrong. Leave.
And for those not willing to read:
"Ray casting is not a synonym for ray tracing" - Wikipedia
No dude I am not wrong, there are very many differences between Raytracing and Raycasting in terms of usage and method but the base-concept is almost indentical.Quote:

Yes, there are many people waiting for this!
