Jamie, I get a 404.
Marv
Works fine here. Thanks for the new build. :)
Attention. Open OINC_Server.ini and change AutoUpdate to 0 - if you don't, your OINC Server will be break after launching it. :(
Setting the client name won't work. Retrying will give an unknown error.
Yeah, uh.. if you downloaded it already please download again - I included an old version of the server. Sorry :)
I updated the installer now.
I found a bug. Any message of less than 21 characters will have at most 2 characters added to the end. If it has 20 characters exactly it will only add one.
Thanks Jon, new build now uploaded, fixes that bug (not present in 1.0!)
thanx Jamie for server,
but i found some bug:
When i connect to server, then disconnects and repeat this 3 times, on the four try i can't connect to server :(
Jamie,
Would this page have the latest version: http://oinc.aquadasoft.com
Thanks,
Steve
Yeah, it does.
This may seem like a silly question to everyone, but i'll ask anyways. How would I go about hosting my own server? Would my web host let me do it (godaddy) or would I have to have a pc on and running all the time acting as a server?
Thanks,
Steve
You'd have to have a PC on and running all the time, unless you rent a dedicated server or VPS. A regular webhost won't let you run something like that.
Your webhost wont allow you run the server, its a shared hosting environment where you cannot run any applications.
You have two options in this case:
- Get a dedicated server (expensive) or a VPS server (less expensive) so you can run your own applications and have full root access. It will mean better pings times and overal better performance
- Host the server at home, most ISP's do not allow you to run any servers, although OINC doesnt generate much traffic it still will be illegal to do so, own risk. Ping times will be worse and possibly the stability too. It is of course the low cost option as long as you dont have a very power inefficient PC running. This could result in a high power bill.
Why do you want to run a server in the first place? If it's non-commercial I wouldnt buy a server (most of the time) and perhaps run one at home, but perhaps you can use public servers like villy and mine at klikfarm.
I was just wondering TBH :) and have been using yours Mark.
Have encountered a problem with the new build though. I've made a simple example but it doesn't seem to connect or something and it looks like Mark's server is working... Can someone have a look?
Thanks,
Steve
Works fine for me. I couldn't get server.klikfarm.com to work last night but it seems to work now.
Doesn't work for me still :(
Do you have a firewall?
Jamie,
Yes and I have to accept or reject every new build of an MMF app I make (which I do accept). Does Marks server have the latest version running?
Steve
The on Ping Failed event doesn't seem to provide any response or time out. I can't re-ping after a failure.
Also I thought there was going to be reverse look up options.
yeah, always the latest version.
I noticed some people stating that the klikfarm server was down at certain times. But it wasnt, most likely caused by using older versions of OINC.
Have people tried running it from the EXE I made and not just the MFA?
The exe works fine, I suspect a firewall/viruscanner blocking the connection.
OK i'll double check.
EDIT: Fired up my PC this evening and without touching any firewall settings etc it's now working :)
OK I do have a problem. When opening up 4 copies of the example I posted earlier and logging in it appears to 'clog' everything up and I get the same problem I had earlier. My only way of fixing it is to restart my modem. Don't get any error messages from OINC and it all worked perfectly before the new version... :(
You have to restart your modem?!
That's nothing to do with OINC.. I'd suggest a new modem/router!
Is it okay if I get this other bug? I'm getting an "Error sending" report sometimes, never got that before. I don't really know what I'm doing to cause it, it just happens. Usually when I'm idle a bit? I think.
Um... I just updated my OINC and now blast won't work.
It won't work on the new Server.exe or klikfarm
Does anyone have any idea why?
EDIT: UDP is enabled on the Server.exe
The new version of OINC is the only thing that does it. I can still use the Internet as normal but I have to restart my modem for OINC to work again. Has anyone else tried replicating this?Quote:

My wireless router/modem is not old, decrepit or rubbish. It is a 6 month Philips device that has never caused me 1 minute of problems.
Could other people please try running 4 instances of the app I posted earlier and logging them all in?
I'm sorry, but that's really nothing to do with OINC.
But it's soo weird since its only happened since the update!
Yeah, I'll admit it. I added some code into the latest build designed to crash any UPnP devices on the network.
Not.
Jesus Jamie... could you at least take this seriously? I feel that we are reporting a legitimate problem that you are simply scoffing at for no identifiable reason.
If 2 users (out of a small number of people who have actually tried the latest update) are having the same problem on totally separate machines, surely it's an issue worth looking in to?
No, it isn't. All OINC does is connect to a host and send/receive data, like any other networked program. There's nothing to look into.
Software shouldn't be able to crash hardware, and if it can/does, it's a hardware fault and not a software fault.
It doesn't crash my hardware as I can still use it to connect to web pages using my browser. It must block the port up something... I don't know, i'm just guessing due to the results (and the fact i'm not on that PC at the moment). Did you try my suggestion of running 4 instances of the same app on the same pc and logging them all in?
So there's no reason at all why the old server exe would crash and temporarily disable my network just because you updated OINC (which I didn't update)?
Anyways I updated and it works fine now, only problem is blast is not working for whatever reason.
How do you know blast isn't working? I don't know. I'll go test it later.
For Steven, try connecting to four different servers in each of those applications.
All the sending worked.Quote:

As I wrote before I have the following problem:
after updating the OINC server and client to version 1.0b, when I run 3 copies of the client, everything works fine, but when I try to join the fourth copy of the client, it can't join the server (the first three copies of the programs are working properly).
After that no client can not join a server.
It helps just to restart the server.
sorry for my english
I think it's probably the flood protection. Try changing FloodGain (not the others) to 0 in OINC_Server.ini.
