MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Hi everyone,
The 8th beta version of the build #249 is available :
MMF2 Standard
MMF2 Developer
This build is a BETA version, please make backup copies of your applications before loading them with this version!
Let us know if any problem with this build, thanks !
Yves.
New features and bug fixes in this version
- Event editor : when you edit the position of a created object, right click an object to make the relative position of the created object equal to the difference of position with this object (the relative position is set to 0,0 if you click with the left button).
- Build as Java application : temporary files and directories were not deleted if an error occured while building applications and you click OK to view the error log. You should delete all the Imgxxx, Musxxx and Sndxxx sub-directories "forgotten" by previous beta versions of MMF2 in your Windows temp folder (on Vista: C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Temp, on XP : C:\Documents and Settings\User_Name\Local Settings\Temp).
- Build as Java Applet : space characters in the JAR filename are now replaced by %20 in the HTML file.
- Runtime : resetting the timer could sometime mess up animations of active objects if the "timer based movements" option was enabled.
- CalRect object : fix in Java version.
- Date & time object (Java version) : now handles 12/24 hours correctly, on PC and Mac.
- MobileFont object : the Windows version of the object did not return the "priority" property.
- MobileUtilities object : new object that contains a few functions useful for Java Mobile apps.
- Java runtime : collision with background in boxed mode was not effective on the right most pixel.
- Java runtime : vertically centered strings were not always displayed completely.
- Java Mobile : power operator now much more precise. Drawback : handles floating point exponant as integer.
- Java Mobile : centered and right aligned string objects are no longer shifted on the left by a few pixels.
- Java Mobile : quick backdrop objects have a correct size (no longer bigger by one pixel on the right and bottom).
- Java Mobile : incorrect mouse detection when the screen was rotated.

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Thanks Yves! Just out of curiosity, why HWA build isn't updated as frequently? It's because it is more stable? Thanks
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
I still wasn't contacted about bugs which I found in previous beta... Nah. I will check if they still are here or not.

I still have a few issues to check before releasing a new update of MMF2 HWA (kind of issue you cannot reproduce easily...). Hopefully I can release it this week.

Our priority at the moment is to fix the issues that are specific to the build 249 or to the Java runtime, so that we can release the build 249 as official update.

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Yves I've got 2 issues with 249 build from beta 7.
If I copy one object with transparency and paste it to another one transparent color changes to non transparent one.
In second case when I make a size of object bigger and I will have empty space in it - transparent colour - in level editor this transparent zone is visible as black and it should be transparent.
Also I think that it would be great to see what beta build we have got. At loading screen for example 249h or 249b8/249.8 ...
And I can give example and video of those errors but not for public cause it's compo entry.

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Update: I forgot to mention that the NokiaKeys object of the previous build of MMF2 Developer has disappeared from this build, it's replaced by the new Mobile Utilities object. The Nokia Keys objects is not uninstalled, so you can continue using it, but I recommend you to replace it by the Mobile Utilities object and then remove it from your Extensions, Data\Runtime and Data\Runtime\Mobile folders.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
So the Mobile Utilities is for all phones not only Nokia ones?
And about those graphic bugs I have to send it to you or Francois?
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Ahh I forgot there is still bug with jumping toolbars and from what I see there is no information about correcting bug with the returning to animation 0.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
I'm quite impressed by all the corrections that were made for the Java/JavaMobile runtimes. C'est du bon travail!
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Yea I agree it's great to see it going improved all the time!
By the way there is still event editor issue that when we open main group time all subgroups and subsubgroups etc from this group are opening.

Thanks for the update Yves! This means HWA will be merged with regular MMF2 build at build #250? Or we will have HWA updated to build 249 later on?

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Excellent update! Also the vertically centered string was a problem I've had before. Thank you!

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Next issue in Graphic Editor: Keyboard shortcuts for Copying, Cuting and Pasting alterable values from resize option doesn't work (we can use those options only via mouse).
And Yves you still didn't respond do you need that video for graphic glitches that transparent colour changes into nontransparent or is visible as non transparent in level editor.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Next issues:
Direct Show objects loads AVI file, but after choosing load video option, file selector resizes to full screen but zone for files and so on is only in 'popup size'.
The same AVI file while loaded by AVI object shows me that there is no driver installed - wth?
And when I want to load it via import animation it crashes MMF.
I used for those above Windows Media Video 8 for broadband(ntsc,700 kbps).
And with Windows Video 1, 85 second video about 640 frames, and size of 27 MB it said that MMF is out of memory on my 4GB laptop, so how that works?
I loaded about 5 MB video with WV1 codec and it's almost whole transparent... So what codecs do we have to use if standard ones aren't proper?
BTW I just noticed that there is JAVA Sub-app, nice!

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
This is a great update especially from the perspective of java mobile development. Even better than I expected.. ;)
Due to the new Mobile Utilities object, screen can now be rotated at runtime. What's equally important is the ability to detect device orientation (width and height), because many higher end mobile phones support both portrait and landscape orientation, and these new features now enable us to make great professional looking apps in every device orientation. Just compare the width and height and if the ratio changes, then rotate the screen at runtime accordingly. Works a treat.

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
if we give play sample and loop it 0 times in start of frame with selected play sounds over frames and restart frame it overplays.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
MJK, could you post all the functions the new Mobile Utilities Object has? I can't update for a few days and I'm eager to try that object out! :)
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Actions: Set window rotation
Conditions: Is application running on mobile, Left key pressed, Left key down, Right key pressed, Right key down
Expressions: Get window rotation, Get screen width, Get screen height
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
There is no problem with sounds - it was probably caused by nonproper times in audios.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
But unfortunatelly transparent colours are going mad I've got red or violet set as transparent one I copy image to different frame and it goes black :/
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
If I remember correctly, the transparent color is not copied with the image, the pasted image uses the same transparent color as the destination (if you paste an image over an existing one in the picture editor, not in the frame list).
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Thanks Yves I will check if this one caused problems.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Unfortunatelly I don't know why but whole graphic editor like for me just screw itself. I want to copy one image into another one all colors changes, everythings goes mad, sometimes when I set transparent colour it's visible as totally different one in level editor it goes black, and I don't know what the hell is going on now :/
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Would it help to import the default palette?
Marv
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
I think that it may be case of PNG transparency but that changing colours and that there were problems even in new objects are a bit painfull. But I didn't change the Pallete marv, just set both checkboards to violet, then red.

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
I will try to record videos for those later on.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
- Java Mobile : quick backdrop objects have a correct size (no longer bigger by one pixel on the right and bottom)?
Ok but, not fixed when gradient background is selected.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
I've found a bug in Java with the Edit box object: the "Horizontal autoscroll" property does not work correctly (it does not scroll at all, neither on key pressing).

Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Is there any reason why there is no mobile java edit box yet?
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
A mobile edit box cannot be done for all the mobiles. Some mobiles have a keyboard, some dont, some have a virtual keyboard! This is a mess. A generic object that would work on every mobile is quite impossible.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
And what about making 3 different objects or one which will dete@t what type of keyboard is used in mobile?
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
My mobile just switches to a fullscreen editor for input text fields. Francois you could look at how Opera Mini works, it auto-detects it quite fine.
-
Re: MMF2 Build #249 - Beta #8
Is there any way to raise the active object limit above 20000? I'm just wondering because I'm using an engine that could easily draw and use more than 20000 backdrop objects at runtime with no slowdown, so the 20000 limit seems very artificial (its not even a power of two!)
