Sub $200 USD 10" Android Tablet
Hey all,
Just thought it might be interesting for some here especially getting a tablet for testing at such a low cost. It's made by Archos' new Chinese branch in Shenzen, I hear it's pretty decent. The only concern I have is the GPU, as I cannot find any information on one even being in the device. I suspect though, that since in a video review the person said it was pretty much the same internal hardware as the Archos 101, except for the CPU and screen. So... Could be a good deal. :)
Anyway, here is the URL:

The GPU doesn't seem very powerful :

Ouch. That looks like it could even be software rendering.
Re: Sub $200 USD 10" Android Tablet
Wow! Thanks for finding that video. Thing looks pretty bad. :O Only bits going for it, under $200 and it has a capacitive multitouch screen. Bummer!
I think I'll hold out for the gen 9 tablets. Anyone else know of a decent (inexpensive) tablet with a good GPU? Seems like only Archos is in that range. At least in the US that is.
Re: Sub $200 USD 10" Android Tablet
It's a resistive touchscreen, and it only runs Android 2.1, which is before the JIT compiler that improves speed 500% that was introduced in Android 2.2.
It has no GPU, and the CPU is less powerful than higher-end android smartphones.
It's crap.
Re: Sub $200 USD 10" Android Tablet
No doubt. Sad to hear.
I'm looking for a new tablet, since the smaller archos model I bought (the 32) does not have multitouch support I need to pick one up so I can test out the multitouch functions for the MMF Android exporter.
Re: Sub $200 USD 10" Android Tablet
I bought a couple really cheap android tablets and they are just about useless.
Re: Sub $200 USD 10" Android Tablet
Angry birds takes about 2 seconds to load on an iPad, and considering the game is pretty simplistic, 40 odd seconds is pretty awful. Looks like some tablets still have a long way to go, but the good thing is they should start to get alot cheaper and hopefully alot more powerful.

This is good to know... I almost made a huge mistake, you guys saved me from it.
Re: Sub $200 USD 10" Android Tablet
FWIW I just picked up a new Android phone for testing (and thankfully a capacitive screen for the multitouch object). I'm quite looking forward to seeing how it performs with MMF APKs.
The phone is a LG optimus V. I read good things, here's hoping it works out.
Re: Sub $200 USD 10" Android Tablet
If you're looking for a relatively cheap, yet powerful, Android tablet, I would recommend the Asus Eee Pad Transformer or the Viewsonic G Tablet. I believe the Transformer is $399 and the G Tablet can be found for $250 or less. Both have Tegra 2 (dual core, 1 ghz) processors. The G Tablet is running Froyo with a fairly stable Gingerbread ROM available and the Transformer has Honeycomb.
I have a Notion Ink Adam, which is very similar to the G Tablet, but I like the design better. They're incredibly hard to get though.
