Yes, I noticed that is was quite easy to stray off the path in your simpleisoexample.
Another issue that arises is avoiding obstacles when on a higher level. So far (which is not that far along) I have just repositioned the obstacles. As the map gets more ramps and platforms this will require too much compromise.
Any suggestions on (yet another) qualifying condition?
