I have tried to listen to the first 18 minutes of the program but with the microphone going in and out it was very hard to hear. Could someone write up the major features of what MMF3 will have.

I'm kinda curious about what was said about MMF3 aswell if it was mentioned that is.
I believe it will be based on Microsoft C++ and not .net.
I also believe it will allow you to generate in flash, java, exe ect...
I am unsure. Perhaps someone who was there could post a list.
I can try, although my memory may not be 100% correct...
* Open file format. No more mfa's. There will be a folder containing all the files used for your game.
* Extension editor is included in the program
* Backwardcompatibility will be supported in one way or another, perhaps with the use of an external tool.
* Some major MMF2 extensions will be directly integrated in MMF3.
* Extensions can be made once, and will work for all runtimes if supported.
* Making extensions will be easier, and allow for more power.
* A scripteditor may be included, but that is not decided at this point.
* Graphics will still be in pixel format, but Clickteam says that there are no reason why there cannot be a Vector graphics extension for MMF3.
* You cannot make Vitalize applications with MMF3.
* Some sort of team source control may be included
any estimates for release? what about android?
Some very interesting points Popcorn, thank you for posting.
They want to release MMF3 as soon as possible. How soon that is though, no one knows. They are doing lots of changes and there are still the huge wishlist they'll have to work out what do to with :)
2012 was suggested, but I don't know how serious that was. In any case, the unfinished runtimes are priority one at the moment. When they are released, production will fully start on MMF3.
Oh my, 2012! Hopefully we will get our hands on it before december 21! :D
I'm a little concerned over not being able to make vitalized applications since in my testing the vitalized was the only one that worked with proper speed. Other like java or flash were very slow on web pages. Perhaps I was missing something.

Version control is somewhat a side effect of the open file format - Your projects basically will be zipped, with separate files for Active objects, frames and all that - all formats are plain text and can be modified without hacking.
Plus, MMF3 will not directly support backwards compatibility with MFA's but rather will have an import feature that will not work in 100% of all cases because of internal changes.
Popcorn mentioned an 'extension editor' - Either I missed that in the presentation or you just got confused: I know there will be an extension *manager* included which lets you get the latest extensions without having to search for them on various sites.
Ah, okay then I misunderstood that one :)Quote:

Well, I said it would probably reach RC status in October. Whether it gets released then depends on if any critical issues are found.
I am interested in Multimedia Fusion 3, the last program i used was TGF and Before that KNP which was free with a magazine.
What is the difficulty going to be like in the new MMF3? are they keeping it rather simple? i've looked at MMF years ago but it looks to have quite a different interface compared to TGF etc.. i prefered the older one personally.
is this newer one going to heavily rely on scripting? i see a lot talk about it, but i thought past products were about power & keeping things as easy as possible. Things i hated in TGF before was not being able to create real sonic loops, able to be faked which i admit looks decent but not the same.. platforming movement was awkward like the player always slowing down completely after a jump, getting stuck in things etc... what i thought was extremely difficult as well is Mooclick (i think?) to make netplay games, i could not get anywhere with that.
It's been years since i made anything in a program like this but i would be interested for the flash export especially, i was at first looking at MMF2 but i just might buy MMF3 when it comes out if it's hugely improved and easy to work with.
MMF 3 is a LONG way off from release. If you hold out for it, you will be in for a considerable wait.
Well the way I see it... MMF3 isn't going to be a thousand light years ahead of MMF2... so yeah I wouldn't wait up on it. I'm sure it will be very similar to MMF2, only with improvements in performance and flexibility and ability to export to many platforms, etc...
I don't think they are going to make an entirely new program that is nothing like MMF2. Also I can almost guarantee you that MMF3 won't heavily rely on scripting... "click"team's whole schtick is that they make software that you can use without having to script stuff or learn how to code.
I think at most they might have a way to copy/paste in text code that will create events in the event editor. There won't be any hand typing out code because it goes against the whole idea of being able to run the game easily from the program. If you are typing out code, it's very easy to make typos and such to where the user is breaking the game a lot and can't get things to run.
This is all avoided with events because unless you really screw up some events, your game will at least open and play under most circumstances.
As for Mooclick... well that was originally a third party extension... and yeah it was pretty limited, though I think it was fairly straightforward. We have Lacewing now, which is much nicer.
But yeah, I wouldn't wait for MMF3 to come out... I'd get MMF2 or otherwise you're going to waste a lot of time. I'm pretty sure if you buy MMF2 they'd give a discount for upgrading to MMF3 anyway... Clickteam is good about that sort of thing.
How often do clickteam have sales on their software? i'm not really sure i need MMF2 developer.. and it costs quite a lot more. Plus, how long do you think before MMF3 comes out? a year or more?
I checked out lacewing, to make a chat room seems mostly straightforward.. then looks a bit hard for when you want to make an actual online game, i got a bit lost looking at a tutorial. But maybe it's just me.
Sorry to double post, but could somebody please answer the above? :)
Sales? I don't know. You do get a discount if you have an older product in the line though.
No one knows when MMF3 comes out. The earliest bet is late 2012, but I think 2013 or later is a safer one..
Well i know they had a sale on all their software last november, hopefully they do this year.
What have most people gone for? the regular version or developer?
If there is a sale in november i am hoping to get the developer one too.
Our main goal is to make MMF3 at leat as simple (or even simpler) to use for beginners, and more powerful and deep for confirmed users.
Better interface, more obvious properties. But also deeper programming and properties.
Where's Like or +1?
OH NO! This could be too late as apparently the world ends in 2012 :whistle:Quote:

Sure, that's bad - but no excuse for a delay of MMF3.
:)
