Android Export vs. iOS Export

I could buy a Samsung Galaxy II and so far the apps I've tried to run on the device, none has had good performance, or worse end up with an error that can not continue, it seems memory problems, but the Galaxy II (1GB RAM) has twice the memory that my iPhone 4 (512 MB RAM) and is a 1.2 GHz dual-core I assume that the Android Exporter is still not in very good condition compared to the iOS Exporter.

This POST I open it with the intention of sharing info on all those who are developing for the two ecosystems, and give our best to help Clickteam to make this a great product as I see it is consolidating the iOS Exporter

Do all apps work poorly/not work on your Galaxy II?

They work very poorly, for example my app "Color Machine" that runs on a iPad 1 (256 MB Ram) well, here only loads intro screen and then says it can not continue, another example is an engine that I'm testing for my new game runs fine on the iPhone 4 in the Galaxy and it freezes half to remove characters that are on the level.

What Android version does that device run?
I have some games running on my HTC Flyer and they are running very well in the last beta.

If you want to post up an APK of your app I would try it on this device.

On my HTC Desire 2.2 I get a blue title screen and some music playing, then nothing. No errors or crash though.

It crashes here.

I will upload an APK of one of my games so you can see how it runs for you.

Hi Stephen, you should see this picture below left, not a blue screen and after finishing the music moves to the next level, which is a level of my game again.

I get to the sreenshot above, but nothing happens after the music stops playing. I let it run for about 10 minutes to make sure it wasn't my phone being slow.

Hi Stephen, if your phone has 512 MB RAM (on an iPhone 4 the level runs without any problem), we can expect the Android Exporter does not handle very well the theme of memory as if it does IOS Exporter. Maybe the Color Reduction of IOS is a marvel and have to implement this exporter?

i a m kind of busy these days because my family put a restrain order to my computer, so, right now i jump the fence and i tested the application in a Gtablet 2.2 i can see the main title but inmediatly the music finish it crash, i am also adding the log, seem that is a memory problem to allocate image size bigger than the virtual memory budget requested.

well i am sure you know better than me what is mean.

Android's Java VM sometimes fails allocations even when there's sufficient physical memory left on the device (each application is limited to something like 16 MB).

Although the MMF2 runtime only stores images in video memory, it still needs to load them into Java memory while uploading them. If your application was already close to the memory limit and you had to load a large image, it could cause the "Bitmap exceeds VM budget" error.

I'll see if I can hack around it by loading images in native code for the next beta.

I think something changed in a last couple betas.
Haven't tracked it down yet but my chicken wings game which ran great now has an issue when I try to jump to frame 2.

Once I gather the info Jamie needs to look into this I will .. but the game was working great before.

By issue do you mean crash? If so, could you turn on the online crash reporting in the application properties?

I was right about the crash - there's a "com.mediatechgames.com" in the online crash reporting trying to load a 27 MB bitmap, which I assume is the OP. That's never going to be permitted by the Android VM, so I'll have to look into hacking around it for the next beta.

Jamie, thanks for the explanation, this is a pretty big limitation to develop games with good graphics. I love knowing that you are trying to hack it in order to break this limitation, thank you all for your responses.

I will deal with things easier, but it's a little frustrating, I hope the next beta and Jamie have good results with this limitation!!!

Breaking your images up into smaller chunks could be a temporary workaround (or just wait until the next beta, because this will definitely be fixed).

I tested the engine of my game Mazinger. The result is that now works but still have problems with memory management compared to iOS Exporter, which works perfectly in this 512 MB and 1GB Ram Android device can not handle. Another detail is that the joystick appears in the colors changed, before or appeared, I think it's a minor repair.

I just tested the beta 15 and this is my report:

- The joystick has been fixed and is with its correct colors.
- Memory problems persist, the sprite of my game has many animations, assume that the exporter can not load and some pictures are animated and others simply see the sprite box blank.
- Not as many sounds can bear in memory the exporter, because when one of the 6 active weapons of the character, function 2 of them and the other 4 just make the app quit unexpectedly. Eye in the IOS that works like a charm, my tests are on a Samsung Android Galaxy II with double the RAM than the iPhone 4.

My intention is not to compare the exporters, if no problem with the Google system, but I do believe that both products should be at par and allow us to develop for both platforms without cutting elements of the games in one.

Jamie told me in a previous post that had problems with loading pictures in Android, will be that herein lies the whole problem?
