Using Audio Extensions

I don't understand how to change the audio extension. What I mean is that I want to use MP3 audio. I did install an extension for that but as I hear directshow will also play MP3. The question is how do I use on of those? Inside my app I find only the option to play midi even though I have extensions that allow other formats installed. What do you have to do to use one of the other extension for audio?

You should be able to drop the extension object into your frame (double-click anywhere on a blank space, and select it from the list of available objects) - then, use that object's actions in the Event Editor instead of the standard sound object.

The "Play music" action is a somewhat archaic term, and is used for playing MIDI files only - "Play sample" is used for most of the sound formats that MMF2 can handle by default.

It would be nice if there was a MP3 extension. There is one for Flash, but not for standard runtime. Come on you extension gurus,.come up with something!

In the mean time Corpsecrank you can convert mp3's to .ogg files and MMF will play those and you could setup something to play each song.

Here's an example for you with a player to play your songs. I converted 3 Mp3s to .ogg and then imported them into MMF. These are cut down versions of each song,.but you'll see what I did in the event editor. Hope this helps out.

Huh? MMF is supporting MP3 files natively. Also OpenAL supports MP3 files.

I would use OGG instead of MP3s. For one, MP3s are licensed, and another reason to use OGGs is they sound higher in quality and compress better when compressed at the same standard.

I agree with you on this. Also they are smaller files.

OpenAL does not and I won't ever add that feature because MP3 is a horrible format with a horrible license and there's no point in using it in a game. :)
