I've had a couple reports of the games INI file being reset automatically out of the blue. One person suggested that the cause of this is that iOS has an automatic routine/function that deletes all temporary, unprotected and cached data from apps. It is usually launched by the os when the storage free space is low and it isn't enough to perform a task. The most frequent reason is installing a big app while the disk is almost full. If thats the case is there anyway to protect the game data?
Not sure where MMF saves INIs, but there should be some safe directory that isn't cleared out in such a situation. This link may help: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7...d-new-ios-vers
After a bit of digging, looks like MMF is putting saved data (well List object save files at any rate) in Library/Cache directory which might explain the problem - might be better in Documents (that's where I used to save user data when coding in XCode)?
I can confirm that several MMF made apps lost their save files (INI) during updayes or with Low space.
It's a bit of a hack, but works for saving List object data, so don't see why it shouldn't work for INI:
save/load as "../../Documents/MySaveData" - this will step up from Library/Caches and into Documents

My only worry is now if I do that, will everyone lose there current data and have to restart?
You might be able to make it backwards compatible by trying to load the file as usual, check if a value exists, and save again in the Documents directory.
Of course you'll need to wipe out the original, perhaps use an empty INI and save that over the old one - like I said it's a bit of a hack ;)
I'm more familiar with using the List object where I can check to see if number of lines=0
PS Even if Clickteam change the save data to use Documents in a future version of iOS Exporter, you'll still have the same problem.
I guess I'll have to look into that. I just released an update and have all ready gotten a couple complaints from people losing all of their data :( I guess on the bright side I checked other games that have been recently updated and games like JetPack Joyride are also getting those types of negative reviews for the same issue. From what I can tell its been updated 55,000 times and I have 3-4 negative reviews about the data going blank issue so maybe its not a huge issue, just kinda sucks. :(
Thanks for this info. maybe clickteam can add support for chosing where to save ini, array and list data? In the mean time i will try this out on my new game...was about to send it to Apple to publish.Quote:

AndyH - It might be tricky to have such options in each object that can be saved, but perhaps a better solution would be in the iOS preferences or iOS Object? That way, won't interfere with other exporters

when i make a update and bulid it on my ios device with xcode, the saved scores in ini file are not overwritten. but i don't know if it is so on a released game.
Captain_Harris - I think updates are fine (it leaves the INI files and just replaces the App bundle), the problem happens when the user is updating iOS or adding another app and space on the device is tight. It clears the ~/Library/Cache directory for each app to make space. I think this is only on newer iOS, eg 5.0 and above, but need to check Apple docs to find out.
It won't clear anything on app updates, unless the users space gets very low. Andos assured me this will be corrected in the next update and it will check to see if the ini already exists in the cache folder first and correct it so it won't ruin peoples progress in apps made with the current builds :) Andos rules!

To sum it up: the ini save problem will be solved with the next update, right?
My app Wacanadoo uses ini a lot - no it just deleted my ini file (i think thats this exact problem).
so again - i have to put the ini file to ANOTHER DIRECTORY. Do i have to do this IN Multimedia Fusion 2 (set directory of ini)
or in XCODE?

Ok now i know exactly when my iphone seem to delete the ini file:
i have 600 mb left. whenever i want to update an app greater than 600 and i just cant update because of its size - the iphone seems to delete the ini file and ALL the saved information is gone.
How can this problem be solved? I would really appreciate your help.
I think you are going to have to wait until the next exporter update.
Sounds like we need to push CT or an extension builder to look into apple's cloud save service...

I've had similar problems with updates to MegaCity. The sooner this is sorted the better tbh. I have a small update for megacity to push out which fixes a single bug, but at the moment I don't want to release it in case it deletes anyone's save data. This is an especially big potential problem since now I also have an in-app purchase which allows the player to level-up faster. It isn't a consumable purchase, but even still, I don't imagine people will be pleased with erased progress especially if they have paid for quicker progress.
When the update to sort this arrives, will it be backwards compatible automatically, or will we have to code something that retrieves data from the existing ini for it to save in the new location?
After the next update it will first look for ini files in the App bundle's documents directory (which should be properly synchronized with iTunes and iCloud). If it doesn't find the INI file there it will look in the old location prior to the new update (the caches directory). It will always save in the documents directory from now on to prevent data loss.
