Officially, no. You might be able to using certain "hacks" that are floating around the internet. But firstly, I don't know how long they will work for. Secondly, I'm not sure if this will cause problems when submitting your games to Apple. Although I've heard it's sort of terrible, if you're able to I'd upgrade to Lion.
I think the issue is with the version of xcode and the iOS version on any device you want to test with. The xcode you can download now will require lion, and the latest iOS requires the latest sdk and xcode.
That's unfortunate, but understandable. I'm getting closer to being able to develop for iOS, but it may take me a wee bit longer before i have all of my pieces in place. Certainly can't fault ClickTeam on that
oh crapola. The macbook i purchased has a coreDuo chip, and not a core2Duo, which is the lowest requirement for Lion. Is there a way that i can compile with snow leopard and the iOS converter? I'm thinking i might have to turn around and sell this laptop as it may not meet my needs. Grrrrr. I guess this comes down to xcode and if there is a way to get the version of xcode that will work with snow leopard. I thought i had my ducks in a row, but apparently not, and aside from my ipad and iphone, i don't have apple experience. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
Is there actually a chip called coreduo? sure it's not a core2duo typo?, I think before apple went to those processors they used some weird naming chip, long as you do not have that one it should be ok.
Here's what the specs are from eBay

It did state it comes with snow leopard installed
CoreDuo was before Core2Duo. Not a typo. The CoreDuo was out for a while before Core2Duo came out, the first macbooks had them. I had to sell my CoreDuo macbook earlier this year in order to get a Core2Duo one that would run lion.
The original CoreDuo CPUs can't run Lion because they are 32-bit, not 64-bit. Sorry :(

*edit* now i'm not actually too sure: https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0
"Also note: that Core Duo Mac's can only go up to 10.6 Snow Leopard and can not run 10.7 Lion." from one of the replies there.
Looks like this will go back on eBay. I hate making work for myself
What do you guys think would be the the min specs I should look for as far as CPU and memory for a Mac strictly used to compile
Bad luck with your ebay buy, i've been there with other things :(
I personally bought a mac mini 2011 model directly from apple, they are £529 but I did not want to risk ebay and also did not want to pay out of my nose for a laptop of theirs, I think a mac mini going all the way back to 2009 will work, you should be able to find one for a few hundred dollars used. It took an entire 2 months pay from me but I really want to make an iOS game, and any cost to me is worth it.
Just to note the 2011 model has no disc drive so it's just a little silver box, extremely small for what power it has and while I only use it for iOS work I am glad to own one.
If you can afford it, it might be a good idea to see if you can get something that will run Mountain Lion (the next osx version). So that this time next year you won't have similar problems.

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Thanks diablo head and colej uk. You're right, I don't want to be stuck buying different hardware next year
I can understand how the OP feels. It is why I have held back on the purchase of a Hackintosh netbook because it is single-core. Realistically, I should save that money for getting a Macbook Mini or a Mountain Lion Hackintosh, so that's what I'm doing. It may be possible to compile games for the current iOS version with Snow Leopard, but there's no assurance the hack will work for much longer. Good luck.
If any other company pulled this type of thing the internet would flame them to death.
I am not sure how apple gets away with this over and over.
Throw away that computer you can't update it and its mandatory you update to continue doing what you did before the update was released.
Its really pretty amazing.
God speed Rubes :) hope you get rid of that computer and get one that works :)
I need to go plug in my MAC again and see if I need to throw it in the trash or if it will still compile things.
Hmm I´m a bit confused. I´m currently using snow leopard for ios5.1 games - everything works fine. Do you guys think that we all will need mountain lion for developing ios 6 games? I mean the currently latest osx is lion - i dont use it and still everything works. Maybe i don´t see the full picture but i´m quite happy with everything right now. So do i HAVE to use mountain lion in - let´s say - 1 year?
As long as the games you are compiling for 5.1 work on the latest versions then it's all good :) trouble is you need the latest Xcode to test that, as the last Xcode for Snow Leopard didn't want to run stuff on my iphone with the latest iOS update on.
It is really annoying because they could easily keep the latest Xcodes working for Snow Leopard if they wanted to.
I'd like to make it clear that I don't know that they'll stop making Xcode releases for Lion like they have done with Snow Leopard. I'm just going on what's happened this year and applying it to the next software cycle. It could be (fingers crossed) that they support Xcode on Lion for longer.
i was able to sell the macbook on ebay for slightly more than i paid, which covered my ebay transaction. I'm hopeful to get a mac before end of year, or maybe as a late xmas preasent to myself
I was left behind with Snow Leopard when the version of Xcode I was running on it got succeeded by a version that wouldn't. I recently make the move up to Mountain Lion, cost me €15, and all is well again now that I have Xcode 4.4.1 on it. As for spec, I bought the lowest 13" model MacBook Pro, didn't incerase any of it's specs, and it works fine. If I was a Mac user, I'd want a much beefier machine, but since I only use it for compile and odd but of work here and there, the lowest spec suits fine. I don't think I'll ever fully move over the Mac, the OS is horrible to work with.
If you update your ios device to 6.0 or later, you will need the latest version of xcode, which requires osx Lion, which in turn requires a mac that is as new or newer as what was posted above.
And yes it is BS. Macs are for old people who send e-mails and people who hate PCs enought to justify apple's rediculous business practices.
