Please discuss anything to do with the Tyler, Texas ClickJam here:
Hi everyone!
My name is Joel Christiansen, and I will be supervising the ClickJam 2012 event in Tyler, TX. My background is in 2D/3D game art and design; I have been a video game artist/designer for the last eight years, and I am currently Professor of Game and Simulation Development with Tyler Junior College.
I first picked up Multimedia Fusion 2 about 3 years ago, and it is still by far one of my favorite programs. It is my privilege to be part of a global game jam using this amazing software, and I am really excited to see what all you mad genius game creators out there will come up with for this event! :)
The Game and Simulation Development Program at Tyler Junior College is pleased to welcome everyone to ClickJam 2012 Tyler, and I look forward to seeing all of you there.
I only just noticed the part that I bolded and italicized.Quote:
This 24 hour event will focus on building a complete game within the duration of the event based on a secret subject that will be revealed at the opening of the event. Participants will break into teams and build games based around the subject using Multimedia Fusion 2.
That information is from here.
Sadly, because the event is a 24-hour long event, I doubt I will be able to attend because of the day ClickJam is on. :( Quite frankly, I'm not sure if I would be able to attend any 24-hour long event, but almost certainly not on that day. I really would like to attend, but... I just can't. Maybe I'll be able to attend another year...
Perhaps the wording is a little unhelpful... it is not literally 24 hours - that refers really to the global nature of the jam. The UK event is running from 10am to 10:30pm for example, but people don't have to stay for the entire event :) For that matter, there's no need to compete, people are free to come along and work on their own projects or just socialise and see what others are up to, learn from peers - whatever interests you!
Oh, okay. That is a confusing way of wording it. Maybe I will be able to come, then. Thanks for clearing that up!
Simon, what is going to be the time slot for the ClickJam in Tyler, TX then?
Hello Ethan!
Here are some details about ClickJam 2012 Tyler:
-ClickJam will begin at 10AM local time on Saturday August 18 and will continue for as long as anyone wants to keep going, up until the 24 hour limit.
-Tyler Junior College has graciously agreed to provide food for everyone--I have been informed that there will be sandwiches for lunch and pizzas for supper on Saturday, and donuts/juice for breakfast on Sunday (if necessary).
-The first 90 minutes of ClickJam will include registration, opening activities, and a basic game creation clinic for new MMF2 users.
-At 11:30AM competition teams will be formed and ClickJam goals will be revealed. Teams will begin designing and creating their games, and this will continue until everyone is close to done and the jam is starting to wind down.
-The exact end time of ClickJam will depend on how long everyone wants to keep going. Games may be submitted to the supervisor at any time during the jam, and will be included in the final judging at the end of the event.
-During the last 2 hours of ClickJam, games will be presented to the judging panel and a winner will be declared.
-The event will conclude no later than 10AM on Sunday August 19.
Directions to event location:
-ClickJam will be held at the Pirtle Technology Building on Tyler Junior College Campus in the Game and Simulation Development classrooms (rooms T237 and T238, on the second floor).
-From the intersection of E 5th Street and S Palmer Ave, proceed North along Palmer Ave
-Go straight at the first stop sign, then just before the second stop sign turn left into the large parking lot directly across from the tennis courts--this is the Pirtle parking area.
-The parking spaces closest to the entrance are reserved for TJC faculty, but parking anywhere else in the lot is ok.
-From the main entrance of Pirtle, take the stairs or elevator to the second floor and proceed to room T238.
Let me know if you have any further questions Ethan--see you at ClickJam. :)
It's on Saturday, so I can't come....
Sorry 'bout that, maybe another time. I only just realized that it was going to be on a Saturday, or I would have brought this up sooner.
Not work, it's another reason...
Hi, Joel. I have made some very basic games with MMF2 for my history students to use to learn material and study for tests. I would like to learn as much as I can about how to make games that really rock. My knowledge is limited, but I know there is so much power in the MMF2 program for those who gain a good command of how to use it. So, I'm considering attending your clickjam in Tyler. By the way, can you post some info on where to park on campus. Thanks.
Hi 4moretech, I am really happy to hear that you are considering attending ClickJam 2012 Tyler!
I posted some directions earlier in this thread to help everyone navigate through TJC campus to the event location... ClickJam is being held in the Pirtle Technology Building which has a huge parking lot right behind it, so feel free to park anywhere in the general vicinity of Pirtle (except the faculty-only parking area).
It looks like we will have some experienced MMF2 users in attendance at this ClickJam, so if you are looking to see the real power of MMF2 unleashed I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed! If you have any further questions let me know--hopefully see you at the jam. :)
I'll be there plus 3.
Thanks for posting Tony!
Where are we to meet and what time does it start at TJC on Saturday?
