Damn it Cole, if I wasn't so wrapped up with client work I'd be pumping titles out too! Good Job, downloading for my iPod Touch now!
Btw, I heart your graphic style.

F-F-F-F-F-FANTASTIC! Great work!
-
fantasticccccccccccccc i will buy this game soon!
-
Looks like you've got a pretty impressive frame-rate going there! Will check it out :)
-
I had to do some pretty intense optimization to get it to run well as there's a lot of graphics and animation. I think I've managed it though, it runs smoothly enough on my 4, which I now guess is considered among the lower end iOS devices. Performance can be a bit low right at the start of a game, but after it's loaded everything in it's generally fine.

Good call on making it free, it's the only way really when your game isn't targeting a niche (i.e. retro platformer) and you don't have an advertising budget.
Love the visuals, really well drawn, and love the rope physics.
What's the orange bar at the bottom for?
-
Thanks :) The orange bar at the bottom is essentially just there to fill out screen space on the iphone 5- the idea being you can use that area to tap left/right instead of using the actual screen space.
The reason being that I made most of the game before the 5 came out so I wasn't really designing it with the extra screen space in mind. I thought it might be a little unfair if I just gave the 5 users more game screen space since the game would be much easier if they could see objects approaching from a further distance if that makes sense. So I decided to keep everything equal and fill the space with that bar.

Awesome game!
I seem to notice some sort of motion blur in there. Could just be me though.
-
Looks very nice, I'll have a play when I get home :-)
-
Yes there is a bit of motion blur- it's baked into the ground texture though, it's not a fancy shader or anything ;)

Sleigher!
1,377 Game Center users, lets hope that translates into some good ad revenue over the coming weeks.
-
This game is a bit of an experiment for me, it's my first free-to-play title and it's the first time I've gone with a publisher. I'll let you guys know how it works out and share my experience in a few months.

How's Chartboost doing for you?
-
colej_uk, it's hard to have a deal with Bulkypix? you need to pay something or they earn a percentage of you game profit?
Best regards!
-
Hi guys, I won't have any specific details as to how well (or not) the game is doing financially until January as BulkyPix are closed for the holidays. The game has been released through their iTunes/Chartboost account so I really can't say.
People seem to be enjoying it though which is great.
But to answer questions- they originally contacted me around March last year expressing some interest in MegaCity and I showed them an early version of this project, and they agreed to publish it in exchange for a percentage of the earnings which I'd rather not post publicly (but from what I understand is a fairly typical publishing rate).
It's been good working with them. You have to be prepared for a bit of give and take when working with a publisher, as they will often suggest you alter your game in some way for it to fit in with what they think will make money-- at first I was a bit hesitant of this but you soon realize they know what they're talking about! I have to admit I think this game was actually made a lot better because of their suggestions, and I've learned a lot from it.

That's good to know, man. Well, Game Center numbers look good, that's something. The "Today" tab should be a really good way of discerning how the ad impressions are going to be. Based on others' ChartBoost reports it seems on a good day users make an average of roughly 1 dollar per 100 impressions, though it goes up and down this seems to be a rough estimate. I'll be putting it into Cow Boom soon, it's a dumb game but it'll be a way to test the waters.
