Newbie Issue (catch the fruit tutorial)

Hi to all , I'm a newbie of Multimedia Fusion and a new forum member.

I started last day to study MMF2 and thanks to some forum member and Jeff I started to learn this fantastic tool.

I made the chocobreak tutorial without problems and after I read some pdf I started with Begginer tutorial on the site..

I donwloaded the Catch the Fruit tutorial but I dont know how i can import the project library on my library assets. so I copied the Catch Ther Frit mfa into examples folder in MMF2 directory
So I have access to the project from library but assests are from the project so settings for every object are done yet..Is this the correct way to import libraries in MMF2??

And another issue when i use this tutorial is the fact that when I import the "small Ufo " object the Path movement is in it yet but if I change its movement type after "Path Movement" is not present in movement list yet...

Hope I had explained a bit my question due to my bad english...

The library objects that it refers to come with MMF2 (they might not come with the demo, I don't know for sure). If necessary, you can make your own graphics for it, or I can make a MFA file that has all of the objects but none of the code/setting that you need to add/change. As for the question on whether or not you did it right, I think that's one way to do it, but the settings are already set since the MFA file you copied is the finished game, and, as a result, the objects already have their settings set in the MFA file, which is where it's retrieving the objects from (it doesn't just take the graphics/animations), which would explain your issue.

As for the second issue, I think I understand what you're saying (I can't say I've seen/heard of such an issue before, but I think I can picture it in my head), but some screenshots would be handy for figuring out what in the world is going on (and to make sure I'm understanding correctly). You can take them using the Print Screen key (usually abbreviated to something like "prt scr" or something like that), and then pressing Control (usually abbreviated as "Ctrl" or something like that)+V in a graphics editor like Paint to paste in the captured screenshot, and then crop the screenshot to the desired size, and then save it using said graphics program. Some versions of Windows also have something called "Snipping tool", which can make the process a lot easier (just start the program, and you should be able to figure it out from there (try clicking and dragging over an area of the screen after starting it to see what I mean by you being able to figure it out from there)).

for the second question , I dont know what happened but today i started MMF2 again . create a frame and after an active object and the "path movement" was here and worked fine..

what I'm very afraid is that i read in another thread (ABOUT MMF2.5 thread) where you answered that behaviors in MMF2 are bugged and cannot complete any game ( large game maybe you inteded) with them and that there is anything we can do at the moment.
I hope you refer af MMF2 only and that 2.5 has this iusses fixed..or not??

Behaviors are not the same thing as object settings or events. They are simply used for putting code inside of an active object, which is fairly worthless if your entire game's engine is programmed in one frame anyway (which is the case for most games made by Nifflas (who was basically the most well-known MMF2 user before he moved on from it (he's still on ClickConverse every now and then, and he'll give MMF3 a try, from the sounds of things, and he's still a well-known indie developer))).

As hard as it may sound to have your entire game's engine in one frame, it's actually quite easy to do, you just need to make a level builder for your game, and then you need to make your game able to load the levels from it, then build the code for your game in the frame that also loads the levels. This also gives you the bonus benefit of being able to provide a level editor for your users, which will let them make their own levels. You might have to make some slight modifications to the level editor that you allow players to use, but they won't necessarily be big ones (mainly, you'll need to make it a touch more user-friendly if it isn't already user-friendly).

The bugs in behaviors, by the way, aren't nearly as problematic as the code management issues. It's almost impossible to find bugs when you use them, and their only use is for copying code from one frame to another. It won't be fixed in MMF2.5, as MMF2.5 is running on a similar/identical base as MMF2, as far as I know, and, as a result, has the same limitations and bugs as behaviors (behaviors can't use qualifiers, which are a real time-saver under lots of circumstances).

Also, you can technically make a game using only behaviors, but it will be a nightmare rivaling Megaman: The Wily Wars' debugging nightmare (it was so bad, someone who has been the producer/graphics designer/etc. (his role in the development has varied a lot, if I remember correctly) for quite a few games in the Megaman series decided to help, since he felt bad for the guys who had to do it (here is some more info on just how bad it was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megaman...rs#Development)) to debug it, and you won't be able to use the very, very handy feature known as qualifiers if you use only behaviors (and behaviors aren't nearly as handy as qualifiers).

Qualifiers are basically a property you can apply to an object. You can program with qualifiers as if they are a normal object, and then any objects with that qualifier will follow the qualifier code in addition to any code you gave them. It's useful if, say, all of your objects have some in common (E.G. all of your enemies get destroyed when they run out of health). As for a level builder, there are quite a few examples on here for them. Just use the search feature of the forums to search for "level editor" to see what I mean. You'll need to understand how to save/load data first, though. I've made a level editor example myself, but it uses the ForEach object, which isn't available in the demo version of MMF2. I could modify it to use a fastloop instead of a ForEach loop, but, as I don't have MMF2 on here yet, I can't do that yet. For your first projects, you shouldn't need to worry about that sort of thing, though. You should, however, make sure that your first games are smaller projects, and then, after a while, start working on slightly bigger projects, and then make bigger and bigger projects as you get better and better at MMF2. After you think you are ready to make a dream game idea (or anything else that you really want to make like that), then that's when you should start using level builders to make stages in your games.

I'm using demo version so i can imagine many stuff not are in it..so tomorrow probabily i'll purchase MMF2 but i dont know if i must buy pro or dev version because i saw dev versio has some unique features and extensions in it? is that reue??

MMF2DEV's main advantage over MMF2 is that you won't have to mention that you made your game/application with MMF2 in MMF2DEV (you don't have to mention Clickteam or anything Clickteam-related if you release something with MMF2DEV). I'd start with MMF2, and, if you find that there is indeed a feature that you absolutely must have that MMF2DEV has, then upgrade to MMF2DEV, since you can get a discount for upgrading from MMF2 to MMF2DEV. I doubt you'll need MMF2DEV yet, though. Lots of the Dev-only features only exist in the other exporters anyway (such as in-app purchases in the Android exporter (if I remember correctly)), and those don't come with MMF2 (you have to buy them separately).

Too long, didn't read: Start with MMF2. Upgrade later if you feel you need the extra features (such as being able to release a game without mentioning MMF2/MMF2DEV or Clickteam), but start with MMF2 for sure (I started with TGF2, but MMF2 is way better (I went straight to MMF2DEV after TGF2, but I do know that MMF2 is way better than TGF2, since MMF2/MMF2DEV actually support third-party extensions such as the ForEach object, unlike TGF2)).

No, those 4 things aren't essential, and the only one that is useful for game development is the first one (possibly the last one as well if you are using the OpenGL object for everything, but it will only make so much of a difference, so I wouldn't call it anywhere near essential (only somewhat-useful, not even completely useful)). They're both right: The first list is the extensions that come with MMF2DEV (and some third-party extensions, such as some in the bonus packs), and the other one is the extensions that are exclusive to MMF2DEV that come with the bonus pack. There are, quite frankly, only a few MMF2DEV-only objects that are useful for game development, so don't worry about that (there is only one that I can think of off of the top of my head (and I don't think it was on either of those two lists, as it is a relatively recent one), though there might be a few more). Again, that's the old website, the new website doesn't really have an equivalent of that page, though (these forums have a post about bonus pack 1, bonus pack 2, etc. instead). Also, those lists are outdated, as there have been a bazillion extensions made since those lists were made, so I can't be too sure about what extensions are MMF2DEV-exclusive.

I may have missed something, but I think MMF2 should be plenty for you (again, you can upgrade to MMF2DEV at any time at a discounted price if you already have MMF2, so, if you find that one of the objects exclusive to MMF2DEV is an absolute must for what you are making, then you can upgrade).

Hi, I bought the book AWESOME GAME CREATIONS 3RD EDITON (J Darby) and when I was trying to make 1st tutorial (alien wars) today after I saved and reopened the project MMF2 doesnt open any file or project so I assumed It war because MMF2 was demo and now I'm going to buy MMF2 personal..
But what I want to know is IF with MMF2 I can do a survival 2d game with an open world setting like project zomboid projectzomboid.com where player can:
1)Harvest tree’s, berries, gold mines, etc.. using appropriate tools.
2) Build campfires, electric fences, portable generators, Molotov cocktails,barricate itself, etc.
3) Find survivors and learn from them, unless you got them killed.
4) Find food & water so he doesnt starve, protect his goods from bandit’s etc

I know it is an immense project but what I want to know is if I can use MMF2 and its event diot to have that or if I can use a more complex tool like Game maker etc..

JC_LEON, if it's 2D, then there is a 99% chance that MMF2 can do it. The things you listed sound very much possible in MMF2 at that, though it might take a little while to learn how to do them.

is not a problem for me spend time to learn how to make all features i need..I guess I can do them with mmf2 or mmf2.5 and form me is enough

Ok I bought my personal license of mmf2 today and I recevied links for downlaod.. installed all and updated to 257

now which stuffs I can downlaod ??

I downloaded bonus pack 1 & 2 and z33z Exstension pack form clickteam downlaod centre (or are included in mmf2 yet?)http://www.clickteam.com/download-centre/mmf2 but I did not found LIJI Extension Pack because link is broken

Certain issues of Clickdisk come with exclusive extensions, but not all of them. I personally don't have any. Here are a few objects that I advise you download, though:

And you put the extensions that don't have installers in the same folder as MMF2 (something like "C:/Program Files/Multimedia Fusion Developer 2/" (it will be "Program Files (86x)" if your computer is a 64-bit computer)). Simply extract the two or three or so folders (they should be called something like "extensions", "data", and, for some of them, "examples"), and not their contents, and then it will put them in the folders and sub-folders of the correct name for you (it's why the folders are named that way in the first place). For the ones that do have installers, simply run the installer, and it will handle everything for you.

for example.. I downladed Surface .zip extension ..after I extracted it I have a surface folder with 2 subfolders named "data" and "extensions"..so what I have to do now..put the entire surface folder in C:\programs(x86)\Multimedia Fusion 2 folder OR I have to put every single subfolder (in this case "data" and "extensions") into relative subfolders in MMF2??

any idea because soundpack 3,4,5 files doesnt appear in my lib??

I don't know about the sound packs (as I don't have them), but I think you need to copy and paste the two sub-folders in the surface folder (data and extensions) over to "C:/Program Files (x86/Multimedia Fusion 2" (or whatever the folder you installed MMF2 in is), then delete the surface folder. I wasn't aware that the surface object would extract like that, sorry about the confusion.

If you've done all of the beginner's tutorials, then I personally reccomend pretty much any of the tutorials made by Koobare. I advise you start with one of the intermediate ones, as those are going to be much easier to understand than the advanced ones. In particular, I personally really like these ones:

1. On the tutorials page, they all say who the author is. Just press Ctrl+F (to open the page search) on the tutorials page and type in "koobare". That should let you easily find them. If that doesn't work, let me know, and I'll just give you a link to each of the intermediate tutorials by Koobare.

2. I know, right? If you put enough time and effort into it, I wouldn't be surprised if you could become a highly experienced MMF2 user (I don't know how much I would say I'm such an MMF2 user, but I know I have some experience, at least (I might be under-exaggerating, though, but I know for sure that I'm not anywhere close to as good as Nifflas)).

andis there a good tutorial on light/illumination because I tried 001game engine and it very simple in in but i MMF2 I didnt undersand how I can illuminate a romm or have a torch light

Lighting is either too simple or too complex for a tutorial, depending on how you do it (if you want really good lighting, it will be complicated, but simple lighting is rather easy (I can make you a simple example for it sometime)). As for a top-down shooter, I don't know of any tutorials for one, but I could make a simple example for one some time. I'm a little busy at this very second, though, so it will have to wait a little while.

Yes I have this example yet..

but that I'm not understandis how i can use know-how I have and put all into my creation/game..

for example..how I can to have a character with a torchlight, with my 360 movement ,that can interact with rooms and object etc...

Do you want 1 light source only, or do you want multiple light sources? Either way, I can include lighting with the top-down shooting example. Also, what do you mean by lighting that can interact with rooms and objects?
