Hi,
when building apps for android devices I've noticed that mps, ogg vorbis and mod sound files don't play. This is problematic, because ogg and mod files are good for background music and small in file size. What sound format should i be using for background music and is there a way to get ogg and mod files to play? any help would be most appreciated :)
.ogg should play.. I use .ogg in my own projects and it works fine. Have you updated to the latest beta?
that might be it. I'll install the latest beta "Beta 8" and see if it works.
hmm i never have any problems with Mm3 or Wav.. wave tends to be a bit bigger than mp3
I have found that wav is best for really small sound bites. I have had very small mp3 files not play properly if they are looped. Mp3 because of its compression is far better than wav for larger files.

How are you playing them?
You *shouldn't* have problems with them not playing.
Also are you converting them from Wav/Mp3 to OGG, and if so how?
I find Audacity is a great tool for this (and much more, plus its free!).
I'm using Audacity, it's free and convert to OGG very fine with a quality 2 or 3 with very hight compress ratio.
I no have any problem with OGG for Android exporter.
interesting, i have just been using .mp3 but i am having some issues with the music lagging along with the game, making it fuzzy when there is lots of things going on, that makes the lag a lot more noticeable than it should be..
Yes, the mp3 consumes many processing resources.
The mp3 should be used only for background music, and all sounds, effects, etc in OGG or Wav.
Now, if you have many simultaneous fx sounds, use it WAV format for the short sounds.
The difference between the OGG & WAV is:
OGG is compressed but use it little memory in the APK, but more process resources.
WAV is not compresed but is fast.
The best practices:
WAV format for little and very frequent use sounds like shots, explos, repetitive fx.
OGG format for medium and large fx sounds.
MP3 format for background music.
You can obtain more best results with the sounds resampled to 22050Hz & Mono (WAV or OGG format with 2 or 3 quality level).
Actually it's not a good idea to use .mp3's in projects that you sell/earn money from..In that case you're supposed to buy a license which costs thousands of dollars. Mp3 is not free to use in commercial projects...ogg is free for all.
