Very inspiring!!! It's great to watch the trailer, 150 games made with fusion, but that seems like a football hype video. It's great to read the posts and the time, heart, and energy you put into your creation! Maybe you should put in a resume at Konami with your game and maybe YOU will create next Castlevania! Rooting for you!!! :D

How much is it when game will be out ??
Sorry for my english
-
Thanks for the kind words Emerson. I used to always dream of working at Konami, but with the current state of their business I wouldn't take an offer from them period.
Bertard - it's still early in development because I'm completely redoing everything from the ground up to make a faster gameplay experience.
-
Looks great
Will it be Steam only?
-
Thanks! When we get closer to release we will reach out to Desura, GOG, HumbleBundle, Indievania, etc. We just haven't gotten around to it yet.
-
Awesome
Would love to see it on GOG

We know that while Steam is the largest PC digital distribution platform, a lot of folks don't use it and prefer other services so it's important for us to put the game on gamers platform of choice where possible.
With the rebuild we've been working on the game is totally different now, so we're waiting until we have enough to show to be able to secure distribution with other platforms as well.
When we were greenlit on Steam it was with the old version, we then realized we needed to take a new approach to make the game more original and not such a blatant Castlevania clone.

Here's a new track from the upcoming OST - lots of updates and dev logs coming!

It's got a great sound to it, keep it up! :D
-
Thanks very much! We hope to really showcase this soon. I've been keeping it under the radar for a while.
-
So, it has been an extremely long time since I have shared anything straight out of the game besides concept renders. Once we were greenlit on Steam in May last year, I spent about 5 months completely reworking the engine while Gren and I worked on the overall design. I will share more soonish, but I mostly wanted to let everyone know the project isn't dead and has plenty coming soon. I've kept it close to my chest for a while and if all goes smoothly over the next few months, I hope to have a public demo available around March or April.
Since there is tons of new info, when the time comes to really showcase the new version, I will be making a new thread since this thread will be old info.
In the meantime, here is your first glimpse (tease) of the revamp. Hope you enjoy!

And an animated gif for good measure.

The graphics look exciting and suitable the type of game you are developing really well. They are definitely an improvement from the ones I have seen before!
Visuals and impact effect I see in the gif looks really good too.
I am curious to see what's next. :)
-
Animations looks smooth, much more fluid than previous versions
(-ehm- sorry I just discovered this forum section very recently >:), so I took a look at pretty old footage...)
very cool weapon / interaction effects and beautifully detailed renders.
Looks very contemporary.. and still has a Castlevania feel to it!
Congratulations, you got best of both worlds ;)
-
@ Robeez - Thanks very much! I've spent a LOT of time learning new rendering techniques to improve the visuals and everything has been completely recrafted from the ground up.
@ Schrodinger - Thanks! The gif is only 30 FPS, the game runs at 60 FPS so it looks even better that way. The old footage is a bit cringeworthy for me now. The animations were pretty bad...but now we're working with mostly motion captured data. It is very important to me for the environments to be very interactable and very much alive. The original version I was making was too much of a Castlevania clone, so we opted to make it a bit more original but still try to maintain a bit of the CV vibe. I'm glad to see that it hasn't been entirely lost from the tease I've shown.
I look forward to showing more soon enough!
-
Now that's more like it. LEVEL-UP!!! :D
-
The new work you have done really looks fantastic, the improvement is instantly noticeable!
Great work!
-
Thanks a ton! I have lots of surprises in store ;)
-
I have to say that this looks so much better than the previous iterations! Seriously, there has been a HUGE improvement to the background graphics. I know I gave some critique from the previous build, but now they look spot on.
The particle effects also seem really neat, can't wait to see bigger resolution footage ;)
-
Thanks very much! A LOT of work has went into what you see here. Your feedback definitely was used when we decided to revamp the game. Can't wait to show the new environments coming soon!
-
beautiful graphics! Also subscribed to your channel.
-
Thank you very much! There will be some really great stuff coming soon. I'm very excited to show it off.

Hello everyone.
We have received our new poster art for Anathema, and we wanted to share it with everyone here. We were lucky enough to commission a talented artist that we really dug the style he brings for this cover art. Coincidentally, you will be able to hear some of the music I have composed in his game soon. His game is on Steam in the Early Access program but it doesn't have any of my music yet. Show some love at http://store.steampowered.com/app/386200/. It's a very fun zombie tower defense game that is in its early stages and it is made in Fusion as well!
I've shrunk the poster down to 1280x1920 as the original resolution of 7200x10800 is just WAY too much to post here. The best part is this looks amazing framed on my wall. ;)
Enjoy everyone!

ANATHEMA is looking great, I missed thit thread.

Thanks everyone! We are still hard at work on the demo but it's coming soon!
-
Great job with the improved graphics! Can't wait to see a video of this. :O

As I slowly build up enough content that would be worthy of a video, here is a random screenshot. :)

Looks amazing, as always! :) I'm intrigued to see what it looks like in motion too. Only thing that I could think to improve is to make sure, that the characters pop out of the background art. The player looks fine, but the monsters might sink into it. Could be better in realtime, though.
-
Here's an early look. Be sure to watch in 60 frames per second! :)
Just note that a lot of the backdrops here are unfinished as well as enemy placement and patterns, etc. And there are a few frame rate hiccups due to FRAPS.

Great footage, your project is looking fantastic!
-
Thanks very much! A LOT of work is going into it. Not enough hours in the day.

New update, short and sweet. The demo should be finished and out by the end of 2016 if all goes well. I'd anticipated releasing it today originally but some personal issues arose that I had to attend to. In the meantime, new WIP screenshots. Everything following is still in the works and is not considered a "finished product."

It looks really cool so far! Competing with Bloodstained by any chance? :)
Are there going to be some more different color palettes for some of the stages by the way? There are currently a lot of brown, green and orange themes going on. I think it would be neat to explore further of what you can achieve by leaving those 3 out for some stages and experiment with other palettes. You already got some blue-green palette going in one of the images up there(with the moon) and I think it sticks out(in a good way!) from the rest. The mist is also a nice touch.
Keep it up!
-
Interestingly we announced Anathema before Bloodstained. ;) but ours is not a metroidvania style game and leans towards classicvanias style games.
There will definitely be more color palettes! This is from an area that goes from day to night gradually and these are all just the first two areas of the game so there is plenty more to come.

I'm pretty late to the party. But I can't stop myself from writing this reply. GREAT WORK!! I can't wait to play your game.
I read in one of your previous replies that you didn't know anything about 3D modeling when you started. Since I'm in the same position right now, I'm really curious about how did you jump over that barrier. Did you learn and then model everything yourself? Or did you use premade models and modify them?
How about rigging and animation? Was it also done in DAZ?
I totally understand that you don't have to answer this question, but it would be great if you did :)
Creating artwork for my games is the biggest hurdle I face. But reading that you didn't know much when you started gives me great hope :o
Looking forward for the demo :)
-
Thank you for the kind words! It means a lot!
When I first started I was using premade assets from Daz and Renderosity. I was able to find a lot of suitable animations also but had to hand animate an awful lot as well which of course, didn't look amazing.
Since then I've learned a good bit with Blender including modeling just using tutorials on YouTube and Google. I'm still not amazing at it and most of the assets I create are simple ones that I need that are not already available.
As we move forward I still heavily use Daz assets but I try to rework them a bit so they aren't as easily identifiable, usually by at least retexturing them. I have a huge library of shaders that I use in the process of everything and really it is just plain fun.
For animations now, I've been part of the subscription program from TrueBones. They have a lot to offer. I tried to motion capture our own using the Xbox Kinect but unfortunately, I live in a small apartment and didn't have the space.
If you're interested I highly recommend Daz3d. The program itself is free and it's community is huge now and it has taken the lead over Poser in the last two years with the introduction of the Nvidia iray rendering engine. Once iray was released that was around the time we were Greenlit on Steam and I knew I could make all the art assets much better.
You are able to modify models and rigs of premade assets as well as import your own. The biggest drawback of Daz is you can't model in it and it doesn't have a physics engine for things like cloth, water, etc.
My best advice with Daz is to just play around with it and use YouTube to answer any questions you may have. It does have its quirks but it is a solid art asset.
On the other hand, I use Photoshop an AWFUL lot. Most assets don't need touching up, but I have to use photoshop for mostly creating tileable assets.
-
Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I've just installed DAZ3D recently, but haven't dug into it yet. TrueBones is totally new to me, so thanks for pointing me to it.
I'm sure you'll find great success with your game :)
Many thanks again for your generous reply!
-
No problem. I'm always happy to help in any way that I can. Art assets were my greatest hurdle as well. While I do 100% prefer the style of pixel art, I also have to say that I hope this direction helps Anathema stand out a bit more as everyone and their mother is doing pixel art for their games nowadays.
There is a great wealth of knowledge on Daz3D on its forums and YouTube so once you have the basics down it starts to come together much better. You just have to have a lot of different pieces to accomplish a lot. Animate2 is a must-have plugin for Daz if you intend to create animations of ANY sort.
-
Thanks again for all the wonderful information. And please don't make the game short. We see many games that could have achieved great success if not for how short they are. I know that it's A LOT of work just to make one level. A game could take a developer years to make. But if it takes players a couple of hours to finish it, they will brutally give it negative reviews for that reason only.(Disclaimer: this is just me trying to give something back for all the great tips that you've given me X) )
I'm sure your game will be EPIC;D
-
Oh no doubt, I hope to make the game at least a couple of hours for a new play through. The last I thing I want is someone beating the game then getting a Steam refund.
