Drag and move to the right/left ? How can i do it ?

Hi,

I would like to create good movement with Drag and drop system. I mean sth like mobile space game (like Sky Force, Cosmos Endless Space Odyssey etc.). There you have to put your finger on the screen and move Space Rocket to the right/left ( I need Only on x axis movement). You can drag screen wherever you want and move Space Rocket. When you drop your finger from the screen then you can't control Space Rocket. How Can i do it ? I prepared example with 3 movements. I think that best option is Follow XMouse, but problem is:
1. How Can I set speed limit to move to the right/left ? ( I can slide very fast on my screen but i don't want very fast character/object movement)
2. How Can i create movement working only when i drag screen and stop working when i drop screen. I want move object/character when i drag screen and move , not object.

See if this helps. Create an invisible active object at xmouse, ymouse

If that object is near the left or right side of screen, change the centering of the screen based on the position of the invisible object.

Have your players "ship" drift towards the invisible object (on the x plane)

I tried create invisible active object at xmouse (i don't need ymouse - My object have to move only on X axis) but it's not working very well. In my example -> 3 option (fallow xmouse).

You're right, you really don't need an invisible object. I had added one but realized all you need is to test if it is greater or lower than XMOUSE and move it accordingly. I hope this helps.

Note: I also made the screen wider than the frame so you can see the "centering" of the frame based on the position of the moving object.

Thank you for your help but it's not working very well. First, there is no drag and move to left/right movement. I exported your example to my iPhone and below i show you how it works. I recorded another video from mobile game where the control system is very good (drag and move object).

Are there any free games on Android with this control scheme we can test? it's hard to know exactly what you want.

Android - Thunder Fighter, Thunder Fighter 2048 , Galaga Special Edition (This is best example, movement only on X axis - It is what i mean)
iOS - Cosmos (Absolute Games)

Okay I played around with a couple of those games from the Google Play Store.. IMO they have kind of poor controls >_< Here is my version of how it should be done:

Awesome :) It's what i mean. I have another question. How can i change animation in your example ? I mean left/right. When ship go to the left change animation to (left) and so on. I added to your example simple animation but i have no idea how can i change it.

there are a few ways.. you could

1) test the speed of the object, if the speed is greater or lower than a certain value, play the turning animation
2) test the distance from the x touch to the ship, if it is greater or lower than a certain value, play the animation.

Awesome :) Thank you DaveC for your help. Now this movement works perfect but i have one more question. How Can i deactivate fast movement when my ship is on the left edge of the screen and i touch on the screen near right edge. Now this ship follow to my one finger click. Is it possible movement only when my finger is on the screen and even if i click once somewhere the ship not follow there ? I mean, movement is possible only when i put my finger on the screen and when i slide finger then move to the right/left without one click/touch action (movement).

Anything is possible! That was the way I was originally making your example but when I was testing I found the different method I used gave better control on an actual phone, you can choose which you prefer though.

For example, if your Ship is on the far right of the screen and you touch on the left of the screen, then you drag left to move the ship left, your finger will slide off the screen.
