Hi Guys,
I'm having trouble getting a video to play at a respectable frame rate with sound in my game.
Below is a video with my troubles. If anyone can help, I would be really grateful.

AVI is a pretty heavy format -- Would it be possible for you to convert it to something compressed?
The direct show object might also give you some better performance.

Playing an MP4 that is 1.05 GB big thru direct show it didn't have an impact on fps.
Maybe the direct show object would also play the AVI better.... but I think a compressed streamable format will work better.
Hi Jeff it's not even that, have you watch the youtube video I posted?
The AVI plays at about 300fps and no sound. I think it's an issue with Clickteam Fusion 2.5 myself?
Not sure what i'm doing wrong! It's driving me mad!

I couldn't use the AVI to play the video since I was missing the codec for this video but Direct Show played it fine.
It looks like its normal speed here for me.... I don't know what would cause it to be super speed on your computer :(
You are using direct show here, not the avi extension? the direct show object does not scale to the video to full screen when this option is enabled.
- resize display to fill window size
When the avi extention is used it goes fast with no audio but scales fine.
I am not using the AVI since the codec your using isn't on my computer.
So when you use Direct Show it plays for you normal speed?
Now you have an issue with resize?
I will break it down for you mate.
- My desktop resolution is 1600x900
- The games resolution is 400x240
When I use the direct show object it plays fine.
But the game is set to maximise and resize display so 400x240 fits 1600x900 (or any other resolution).
When the direct show is played it only fills 400x240 because that it's size, the same size as the frame.
So what we get is the direct show in the top left filling 400x240 and the rest of the 1600x900 is white because that's the background of the frame.
There is no automatic scale option in event editor or in the properties for direct show.
Direct show must scale to fit the users main desktop resolution which in my case mine 1600x900.

Edit -- So the AVI object does this fine but then its the speed problem?

No not yet - Was talking to Fernando about some other video objects he has in production.
I was doing some experiments with setting the width and height of the Active Direct Show to the frame size.
Perhaps see if that can do something for you.
I have found a work around for this issue, it's not great at all! But it does the job.
Anyone having issues this will help you.
First if you want to use Full motion video with audio follow these steps. :(
- In the objects select "Animation"
- Pick your .avi file
- Your .avi should have the same resolution as your game.
- Test video and you will see that you have no sound!
- Convert your video sound to an .ogg file (Yes you need two files!)
- In the event editor time equals to 0.65 seconds play your .ogg (Time may differ on your system / game settings to keep it in sync)
- Play frame again and now you should have video with external sound in sync
Adding video should be as simple as a Klik'n'Play :)
As soon as you build your game, make sure the video files are in your games .exe folder or otherwise you will be left with the frames background colour and just video sound!

Hi Jeff, thank you to yourself and the team at Clickteam for the update.
The .avi object has been fix now with the speed issue. But now I have noticed another issue with the object which needs a look at.
Layers!
If you have a graphic on layer 2 for example sprite based text, and you have the .avi on layer 1.
The .avi object will take priority over everything. Meaning it will cover everything else which is "To Front" or on a higher priority layer.
Hope you can solve this, but well done thus far. :D

No not yet -- Did you try the Direct Show extensions to play the videos?
(I didn't re read the whole thread so I can't remember)
Some windows objects like to force themselves to the top (AVI is one of them) but I thought the Direct Show or Active Direct show where developer to counter this issue.
Directshow still fails to stretch :(.
I guess my first solution will have todo for my game, the only downfall to this is. If customers want to view video in my game they will have to download an external plugin such as K-Lite. They should not need todo this at all.
What I will have todo is implement a feature, if plugin is not detected. Play still frame animations. This is lame but I guess it has to be done seems there is no fix for this and can't see one being done in the future.

Oh no, i'm a doof!
Active Direct Show does stretch but you have to tell it to PLAY in the event editor, if you run frame it plays automatically, but if you run application it does nothing unless you tell it to play XD.
Direct Show does not stretch!
Problem solved, no layer issues with Active Direct Show!
Edit: This is some help for people for compatibility.
Make sure your video files are formatted to .WMV
This way anyone running a computer with no additional plugins can view your video no problem! (Only for Windows computers)
