Hello!
I'm having some weird issues when I try to save a value that's a decimal to my ini file.
The value of "Y" is 1.25 but when it saves it's only saving as 1.
I've tried saving the value like this too: Set item value to (Y) * 1.0 and that didn't do the trick either.
Anyone know of a fix for this offhand?

Looks like INI only support integer values?
You could save as a string:
set string to str$(yourfloatvalue)
and then convert back again in value when retrieving
Del_Duio - By the value of "Y", do you mean the y coordinate of your object? I think those are limited to integers, which might explain it losing the decimal part.
Otherwise:
You could try saving as a string, eg String$(value Y("myActive"))
Then read it back using val, eg: value Y("myActive")=val(<insert ini string here>)

I did some more digging and somebody had success where he had to multiply his integer by 100 and save that to the ini, and then divide by 100.0 to get it back.
I've been messing with different things on this since I made this topic and so far I can only get the proper value to save. Whenever I try to load it back it somehow sets the value to 0 (??)
Here's some more info that may be useful:
The thing holding this data is a global active object. Its initial value is supposed to be 1 (this is a multiplier that's used to see how many gold pieces you get from chests and etc).
One of the starting bonuses you can have is 'Extra Gold +25%'. So choosing that now sets that same value to 1.25.
I save the game, which multiplies this times 100.
I open up the ini to double check and sure enough the value of 'GOLDBONUS' is 125 like it should be.
I then restart the game and load the ini back up and divide it by 100.0
The value of GOLDBONUS is now 0.
I double checked the loading sequence and it's for sure correct. I thought maybe I had spelled the name incorrectly or something and it wasn't reading back from the correct group / item / value.
I'll try your methods and see if that works, I appreciate the speedy replies!

Thanks, guys! Your idea to convert to string and then load using val(str$) did the trick!
Also turns out it was loading a 0 because I had the group's item set as "GOLD BONUS" with a space between words XD
This is great! I'm trying to add a save feature to my roguelike and it's taken me 3 days so far because of how I originally made this thing (all the variables are all over the place and it uses tons of active objects to store all the data). So far I have most of the data loading up correctly and even the map you were on and what barrels and etc you had already opened.
This stupid decimal thing was hanging me up something fierce but this was a HUGE help!
Hmmm, okay now I'm having trouble with saving an active object's animation direction to the same ini file.
I'm saving 6 active object's current animation # and direction value to the ini, but only the animation #s are working. All the direction values are being written as 0.
Here's an example straight from the ini itself. The first part is the animation sequence # and the second part is supposed to be that animation's direction value.
In both cases, direction 0 means an unequipped item or blank yet the guy has gear in both spots (which means the direction is changed to a show a picture of that gear).
BODY_ICON=13
BODY_ICON_DIR=0
LHAND_ICON=14
LHAND_ICON_DIR=0
Any idea why that might be?
Odd, it should work, sure you don't set the direction after you save to the ini?
If you "debug" the direction value just before saving to INI what do you see?
(I often use a List object for these purposes
i.e.
on save button pressed
>>> add line str$(dir(body_icon)) to "My_debug_list" <<< additional debug line
>>> set value "BODY_ICON_DIR" to dir(body_icon) <<< your current save event
)
if you see a 0 there, INI works good
if you see any other number and the INI saves 0, then INI could have some issue XD
Nope that's not it, the direction of those actives is set when you equip the gear. Then maybe a few minutes later I save it and it's saving values of 0. I'll check again though I probably misspelled something again XD
Is there any way this is thinking it's the active's direction value (for movement) and not animation direction value?
For example to debug I'm changing a string object's alt string to this: Str$(Dir( "BATTLE_RH" )
This value is reading 0, even though it can't be 0 because the picture is a sword and not nothing (or value 0).
There's nowhere else in the code that sets the active's animation direction back to 0 too but I checked to be doubly sure.
The only choices they give me under the BATTLE_RH active object animation is Direction Value / Frame / or Animation Value.
I know it's not Frame, and Animation Value is the same as the animation sequence from before which IS working.
So it has to be Direction Value, yes? Am I doing this right?
I think you are doing it right, but it's indeed somewhat confusing,
because fusion has "direction" and "animation direction" for actions
but only "animation direction" for expressions
if I remember correctly:
if you change movement direction, the object (with builtin movement) will move toward the new direction AND the animation will automatically change direction accordingly
if you change animation direction, the object will only change the direction of its animation
if you retrieve animation direction (the only value you can retrieve regarding direction) it should give you instead the "movement direction" (which usually is the same, but not if you change "animation direction")
and I guess your object has no builtin movement..? :o
any chance you can isolate the code so we can try something out?

I think the best practice would be never using "change animation direction" but always using "set direction"..
Q: You have set up an active with four directions (0, 8, 16, 24) each with an animation (loops two times). Then you put some buttons that can add and subtract values to the animation index and direction.
You would expect this to make the object turn 90 degrees each time you click a button, but it only works one time. You have also set a counter to display the animation direction, but it does not work.
Explanation:
The two directions are the "animation direction" (what is displayed) and the "movement direction" (what is stored and used for movement calculations). The problem is that you assume Dir() retrieves the former, where as it actually retrieves the latter.
This mistake is easily made because the "Get Direction value" expression was accidentally put under the Animation sub-menu instead of the Movement sub-menu. There is no way to retrieve the current animation direction because it is not stored anywhere (it is usually determined automatically, derived from the movement direction and available animation directions).
Imagine you have an active object with bouncing ball movement. This object has four animation directions set: Up, Down, Left and Right. In the event editor you set the object's movement direction to be right and up a little (AKA a direction of 1 in MMF2's directional system).
While the object is moving to the right, an dup a little, its animation direction will be as if it were going right. However, if you use Dir("active") then it will give the movement direction of 1 and not the Animation Direction of 0.
If you set the animation direction through events based on the movement direction, it will not change the movement direction and the next time you try to move based on on DIR)"active") it will give the same result because the movement direction has not changed.
If, instead of relying on the movement direction, you stored the animation direction in the object's alterable value, then it would work as you expect. Instead of:
Set animation direction to movement direction + B
You would have:
Add 8 to alterable value A of object
Set animation direction to Alterable value A
A further complication may arise. There are angles which are distinct from directions.

Ahh Marv is right,
you are probably changing "animation direction"
while you should change "direction"
so for your objects not "change animation direction"
but "set direction"
the animation direction should change anyway
but then retrieving animation direction value should work fine
(crossing fingers XD)
Thanks everybody for all the effort in trying to figure this out.
I've been at it this whole time and found a workaround that does work but I will for sure remember the correct way to do it next time.
The workaround is: When you equip the gear I set that animation direction value to a global value as well. And THAT'S the value that I save in the ini, and load back.
Lot of extra work for all the stuff but as long as it's done now I'm happy.
