I have been doing search for how to make my menu pause and resume button work. I do not want to use a key. I have a button. So I found one example done with a flag but being a newbie and basically an artist and not a programmer I really need a tutorial on flags. I don't know how to make this work. I'm not home atm, but if you do this:
Have a button and put an event with a Flag from the button and set it to Toggle Flag 0
then have 2 events
1 with If Button Flag 0 = Off then .... sound Volume 0 or stop sound (depending what you use)
1 with If Button Flag 0 = On then .... sound Volume 15 or play sound (depending what you use)
Marv, the example I found is about movement. I get the idea that flags are like an on and off switch but I don't know how to put it in the editor. Perry, I just don't get the volume part of your answer. What I need is for the user to click on main menu and for the game to pause and the menu to pop up. I also have a pause button that the user can click with the mouse. So, the pause button would have a flag of 0=off and 1= on or something like that I guess but I don't know how to put it in the editor. I appreciate your efforts. Klik-it, I always appreciate your input.

I am using this for all my games. plain simple and easy.
Maybe I am misinterpreting the request, but I think they want a game pause, not a sound pause. here is a simple example. You just need to make sure all your game code (that is the code that controls your game logic) is inside the group. If you use in-built Fusion movements, you will need to stop the movements manually with a "Stop" action and resume the with a "Start" action..

Then you can keep the same and put your whole game in an Group and disable / enable it :)

Mobichan, I have lots of code, how do I put it all in a group? Is there a cut and paste thing? I think you know what I want to do but I am not sure at this point how to put everything into a group. Sorry I am really new at this and there does not seem to be anyway to educate myself accept by asking for assistance and searching through the forum. I wish there was a book. The little book I have and the tutorials I have gone through just don't address the specific questions or advanced problems. How do people learn this stuff? I really appreciate all of you trying to help me.
Just create a Group at the top Ie. "Game"
then in the event viewer select everything and drag it into the "Game" group, and that's it.. not everything is in that group
once you enable/disable the "Game" group the game will be paused.
So make sure that you put your Pause button outside the main group :)
Okay I figured out how to make a group and followed the pause example by Mobichan, but it doesn't work. I have done something wrong and I can't get it to stop running without bringing up task manager. It seems that you have to hold down the mouse to make the play stop, but as soon as you let go it starts up again. Maybe someone could take a look at it. You use Bouncing Ball/Race Car Movement and your objects move without any events, so disabling your game code can't stop them. You have to stop the movement
with an event, the same way you did Movement → Bounce you can do Movement → Stop/Start. You can also disable or enable player input(the arrow keys for the space ship movement)
and the Stopped animation of the space ship. Then everything should stop, except one of the laser bullets of the hostile ship, if it was fired shortly before activating the pause.

Wodjanoi, Thank you, I don't know how you got it to click correctly but yours works great. When I try to make the button work I have to hold the mouse button down to stop the play. Thank you for your help.
