Android App Crashes Instantly on OpenGL ES 2.0

Hello

New CTF2.5 user here with a bit of a problem.

I have been working on an app that really is nothing more than a simple form based question/answer notepad thing, with the exception of using text blitter events as described by Chris Burrows over at the diybandits.com.au website.

The app seems to build fine with no reported errors, but crashes as soon as the AVD emulator loads it. The app is set to OpenGL ES 2.0 currently, but if I set it to ES 1.1, it will open and work... For a while. If I leave it idle for 10 minutes or so, I get the crash.

I've tried a multitude of different ways of building it with pretty much the same type of results; either an instant crash or a delayed one. I've also worked to read around the subject to try and understand what is going on, but I cannot see what I am doing wrong.

So I turn to the CTF deities to help!

OpenGL ES - 2.0 (1.1 crashes too, just after some random period of time.)

AVD API Level - 19
AVD RAM - 2048Mb with 64Mb VM Heap and Use Host GPU enabled

As a side note, I dug out an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with a smashed screen. It has a 4.4 Omni Rom so is at API 19. It worked just fine, albeit a little slow, using the ES 2.0 build. I've yet to try the ES1.1 build where it crashes after some time - I will try this tonight.

Would love to get the AVD emulator to work with it so I can test beyond Kitkat, but at least I have some way of checking my app works for the moment.

Emulators are never 100%. it's better to use a real devices.
never had a problem with a real device..
if it works on one, then it works for everything. Android is not picky, Emulators are..

is you PC laptop openGL 2.0 compatible?, I know old PC laptop with open gl 1.0 and 1.4 do not run well on emulator with this version of opengl graphic card

Admittedly Perry, that's not the first time I've seen that advice since I started browsing the forums. Do you mind if I ask you how you actually test what you build? As in, do you have a small number of devices with different roms, or just the one device with the highest Android version or ? Just curious.

Fernando - it's a desktop i7 4790 with 16gb, but running Intel 4600 internal GFX. I could try my old Radeon 5850's in it, but I am starting to gravitate towards what Perry said and forget about the AVD stuff.

That being said, I am now curious as to the results I would get if I installed Android x86 or RemixOS on a spare box. Wouldn't get touch events, but it would be another test unit to work with I suppose.

I have a Note4, and from my wife a Galaxy S5 and S7. but 9 out of 10 times, I just use my note 4.
and I always use the latest API or the previous version, and then the min req. is 2.3 and max is 6.1 for the project properties.

and all the devices have the latest Android Versions.

Note that some devices < S4 it's only like 0.3% of the people... they are just of of luck in that case. and they just need to upgrade.
it's the same with IOS. 99.5 % is on the latest of 1-2 models before.. according to some statistics if you google around :)
That's just the chance i take.

I still get people asking me question why I won't support IOS 4-6 .. Come one.... upgrade your IOS instead of using a Jailbreaked version to keep that 1 program working etc.. so it's their choice, not yours.
