Is there yet any way of picking up external keyboard presses from within an iOS app?
It's a commercial one, cosmos. Mind you, I haven't tried loading it into the latest build of MMF.... It has groups of option buttons on the subapps that you can bring up when you need to make...
Try renaming your stuff, leaving out the word Void. It could be a system word, and thus causing internal confusion.
Have you called your item "Global Value"? Again, a dodgy name. And it's a...
What name have you given your Global Value?
Do you have the ini on more than one frame? Check that you've set the ini to the same destination on all frames in your app.
You can also find your file by clicking on the Windows Start button...
I'm converting an old app for iOS. Despite checking the XCode Project option, the code for file selector from the File Object still works. Shouldn't it be disabled, since it won't work on the iOS...
If you click 'Create ini in Application Data folder' in the Ini Properties Settings tab - that's where it puts in on your PC:
Computer > System (C: ) > Users > YourUserName >AppData > Roaming >...
I have an old app that has subapps + main app fullscreen simultaneously - control swaps between them.
You need to refer to the animation by number, not by name. In the Change Animation Sequence window, click on the Use a Calculation button. User animations start at number 12.
Way hey! There are some new actions in Storyboard controls since I last worked in MMF :) Full screen mode and Windowed mode. Problem solved.
Set Counter to 0
Alterable value A (Group.Enemies) = 2
.......Set Counter to 1
+ Alterable value A (Group.Enemies) = 3
.......Set Counter to 2
Why do you want to count the number of objects that don't exist?
Set Counter to 0
Alterable value A (Group.Enemies) = 1
Set Counter to 1
Counter =0 ---> No enemies with alterable value A=1...
I have several old 640*480 apps that use both the file selector and change resolution mode. They work fine on old machines.
However, when you have a high resolution modern screen, and switch...
Does this extension allow keyboard input into iPad? Anybody tested it for that yet?
Ha, Paul you had the last laugh with the volcano pancake. No problems with eating it, for me. Next morning, however.....
Yep, someone has just reported
...........security risk stdrt.exe.
on one of my commercial items. It uses kcmouse.
Norton 360 apparently.
The Java version of kcpict.mfx is still missing in the latest build (249e). So can't build anything that uses the Picture object.
You need File - Page Setup, select radio button 'with their icon and name'.
Does the hi-score object work on the web? It goes invisible if I build a web applet.
Can I save configuration data on the user PC?
You could be running out of objects - are you creating loads?
Look at Runtime Options in your Frame Properties - is it still set to 300 objects? Try increasing that to 5000 or so.
Or you could...
 Ooops. Thanks Jeff :D
Yes, version 6 update 12, b04 on both machines.
I have a stopping and starting midi file that plays fine within the .jar on my new PC. However, on an older XP Pro machine, no music. Samples play OK, but midis are silent. (Nothing strange about...
Security level was set to medium - so much the same as a general audience, I'd guess.
Thanks Spryz, that's very reassuring :) Thought I'd just wasted a couple of weeks work when that scary thing popped up.
I'm using IE7 on Vista 64bit. I get the popup when I run the htm file MMF created on my own machine - haven't tried uploading it anywhere yet.
Jeff - I don't get the popup on your website. ...
I thought Java web applets ran in a sandbox and don't access any files on the user's machine. So... why do you still get the Internet Explorer popup warning you about the dangers of letting ActiveX...
I've just tried to build a java standalone of an MMF app with the latest beta and got the message:
'Impossible to save the JAR file: the java version of the following extensions is missing:
I can't see other people's Java apps either on the tablet PC. I suspect the ancient tablet video driver :( (Been a couple of years since an update was available).
That's a bit strange... My machine with Java on is an XP Pro Tablet, not sure if that makes any difference.
The game is clearly playing as I get the music and all the sounds - but all I can see...
I created a standalone .jar on my Vista 64bit rig, but can't get it to run on either of my Windows XP machines. (NB I have both the 64bit and the 32bit latest java versions installed).
On the XP...
Which build of MMF are you using? Are you using Hardware Acceleration? Are you using videos as your background? Why is the game so large?
I have an app that began in the early days of TGF. Works fine in build 248. When I build as a java standalone, the background colour of the frame turns from sky blue to pale primrose!
Opinions please - the most common size of screen for phones these days?
Can we programmatically switch from fullscreen to windowed mode? So we can have the game screen as fullscreen and the change options screen windowed to get the edit boxes etc?
Is the Cursor object windowed?
Marcello's Mouse object
Wow Yves! Thank you :)
Well, yes, Paul. The path was the same as another video with a different codec that showed up perfectly :) Unfortunately, that codec isn't widely used.
Yves, you didn't accidentally fix it when...
Thanks LC. The animation object did play it, but used the MMF palette to do it - so not good for a full colour video.
In the end I dug out another machine and put build 248 on that. Cough. The...
I've created a video with the MS Video 1 Codec. It plays OK in MMF using Direct Show. However, although it shows up in the frame editor in the AVI object, when I run the app (within MMF) - it isn't...
Maybe frame 4 doesn't yet exist at the time the action is executed. Perhaps you need to wait until the subapp is loaded. Hmmm, can't test this here - but how about a compare two general values...
Maybe set a global variable to 4 - and check that variable as the first thing you do in club.ccn. (Put the jump action in the frame 1 of club.ccn).
I'm looking at specs for a new PC thats going to do a lot of heavy graphics stuff. So I'm considering XP 64 to give me that extra bit of memory.
Has anyone tried MMF out on it by any chance?
Ah. I'd hoped it was just an Irrlicht function that hadn't been implemented yet. Back to the drawing board.
Anyone know any way to get anti-aliasing on the edges when you use the 3D mesh object? It looks a bit weird - nice graphics, pixelated edges.
Mike, my applications are installed on thousands of PCs around the world. I don't get flooded with support calls - in fact I can only remember one in about ten years. However, I rarely use 3rd...
It helps if finishing the game isn't just an arbitrary event. So tell yourself you're not getting that new PC until this game is done! Not getting paid until the work is done is an even better...
Yes, LIJI is from Israel.
His profile is here:
Not sure about 3. I start with a fuzzy concept, and make lots of little prototypes. Gradually an idea firms up in my head and begins to have a life of its own. Usually it terrifies me with the...
LC, are you using a pretty high-spec PC? Can you give me an idea of the maximum length (in seconds) of continuous video you can show at, say, 60*480?
Thanks LC. What format are you using - avi, gif, flc?
Is this optimised for HWA? What size can you run without slowdown? Any known problems?
I'm sure I've got this working in the past - try searching the old forum for MCI examples in my name.
The explorer object gives a nice look to it. I'll have a play with that and a subapp and see how it goes. Thanks :)
Thanks guys. Hmmm. Quite a bit of work then. That MFC stuff was exactly what I'm after, but getting it into MMF is another matter!
Is there any way of preventing the User from changing the directory you specify?
I think the issue here is the 'punishment' being meted out to DG by other forum members. Nova is asking people to leave moderation to the moderators, please.
We do get very young people on the...
There is a new thread to continue the Quake, Heretic, Duke Nukem etc discussion here:
Which version of Java should we install on our development PCs though? (The Windows machines we use to build the Java applications).
A mini mac convention perhaps? :D Mel has loads of macs.
And thanks about the Java 1.5 info. That should be a sticky - if you go to the Sun site, you get version 6 by default.
Hello stranger :) Welcome back! I can't find 'do not intercept mouse clicks' either.
I believe Novabrain is a bit of an expert on ASBs. Might be worth sending him a PM.
Well, I might be almost in luck. The app I'm experimenting on is 256 colours with one character and a few backdrops. Lots of wave samples though and some midi music.
Did you have Java 1.5.0_13...
Wonderful stuff Werbad :D
Mel - what version of Java do you have on the machine you use to build your MMF Java apps? (I've been asked to get my stuff working on 80 macs running 10.4)
Did full screen work on OSX 10.4?
Francois, what version of Java are you expecting us to use to create MMF Java applications with?
Actually, I think this has been a splendid opportunity for forum members to showcase their skills and ingenuity :D
It does seem to be possible to download Java 5, but I'm not sure
1) if b248 Java apps will work with Java 5
2) what happens if you already have Java 6 on your PC - will it be overwritten and how...
Dragonguy, this application is clearly top priority in your life. But - it isn't top priority for anyone else. So you need to be thankful for any feedback, however small. Progress is often measured...
Right, it's version 6. So no dice on OSX below Leopard (10.5) then :(
I've just downloaded the Java JRE from Sun, but it doesn't say anywhere which version it is.... Anyone know?
Great, thanks Isaac. That should make life a whole lot simpler :D
This is what sorts out the real mathematicians from the rest :D
Making things seem simple is the gift of the genius.
What OS and version number should the Mac be running? Do Macs come with Java pre-installed?
Well, I could lock it, but it's amazing how much mathematical knowledge everyone here has. Seems a shame to curtail such an academic discussion :D (Tips popcorn into the pan, lights the gas)
Thanks Francois :D
Has anyone got an application working on a Mac? (Not via a browser - but a normal fullscreen application with no 3rd party extensions).
Yes, you're right about the external app. Not sure this would be an easy task in MMF, and what Vista would make of it, permission wise.
In the end, I rewrote the MMF app to put all the different...
Has Marcello's Mouse extension been converted?
In my MMF app, the first time the app runs it checks whether an ini file exists in the Users Application directory. If not, it creates one for that (Windows) User.
So - when I uninstall the app,...
Sort of a game, but also a therapy tool for stroke/brain injury survivors. Most of the work went into the graphics, and there was a long learning curve with that. The requirements kept changing as...
Thanks guys. I've had my head down working to finish this project (3 years and counting...). Nearly there as you can see, else I wouldn't be worrying about the desktop icon :)
Anyone know if these need to be made in Websafe/Standard colours? Or could I use Octree or Median Cut to get a palette for them instead?
If you resize the object at high quality, it will give you the effect you want.
Fish, are you using the demo or the latest build of MMF2 ------>
Probably a case of grandmother, eggs etc - but do you have the same number of frames in each animation? MMF is a bit clever about changing animations if you do - go from walking to running and it...
Is this the one?
In Jamagic (old CT 3D product), you could build a large 3D world and then move the camera around it so the view changed constantly. I can't see any way of doing that nicely in MMF without using lots...
If you select all the frames in the animation, you can click on the Export icon and export them as numbered images (jpeg, bmp).
I use Jasc Animation Shop to make gif files etc - you can probably...
Or you could have the V made up of forks of lightning on a dark background. Petrol is on its way out - we don't want the same for Vitalize :D
Might be more eco-friendly to have a picture of a windmill :)
A long time ago, I read data from serial ports using an ActiveX control. Google to find more recent info on this.
Alternatively, you can request an extension to do the job in the Extensions forum.
Which ports are you using? USB, serial, parallel?
Yes, the cat app was fake 3D and done with MMF2. I use lots of different programs to produce graphics - just use whatever your favourite is :) Amongst others I use TrueSpace (various versions,...
Your players would begin life as 3D models in another art package. You'd render them at different angles, doing different things to get 2D sprites that look 3D.
I wasn't talking about Mode7. By fake 3D I mean that your sprites are prerendered in 3D and you use the runtime resizing of the active object to give the impression of closer or further away.
The frame rate defaults to 50 cycles a second. So it limits you to one fiftieth of a second. Change the frame rate to 100, and, depending on your PC and the amount of graphics you're throwing...
You can do pretty convincing fake 3D now. Ordering of objects takes careful handling as the characters move from near to far away, in front of and behind trees, grass etc. But this may not be an...
'Compare global value' does do exactly what it says on the tin, though. Very handy for beginners. By the time you get around to needing 'Compare two general values', you're well beyond beginner.
0=1 - programmer speak, ain't it. Not very user friendly for those who spend all their time making beautiful animated creatures or glorious arty backgrounds for their portfolios.
Jamagic had a World Editor. It wasn't incredibly easy to use, but it worked. I used it to import .X worlds and objects from Truespace.
From the in-program help - Special Object, Expressions:
Extract left sub-string extracts a sub-string from the given string, starting on the left. Example, LEFT$("Hello", 3) will return...
1. Restore animation frame.
Active objects in MMF2 have a Load Frame action. Look under Animation actions.
You may need to get the latest build (246).
Last part - at the beginning of the behaviour code, you could set a flag for the duplicate. When the behaviour code ends, clear it.
Then in your main event section, you can select duplicate by...
It might be worth your while searching the MMF File Archive for Inventory examples. Some may load up in Games Factory.

Mouse object, bonus pack 2 - by Cellosoft.
No good if you're using a Tablet PC though - it only works with a mouse.
Don't understand the copy paste problem. What build are you using?
Click on the first frame you want to copy and then shift click on the last frame. Press CTRL and C together to copy the frames....
Copy and paste should now work as you expect for frames. You can also copy and paste an entire direction of an animation by right clicking on the animation name.
If you want to move the hotspot...
If you export your 3D images as a numbered sequence of pngs, MMF2 can import the sequence for you into the animation of your choice.
For example, in the Picture Editor for your active object,...
First of all, do you need to have your app run in True Colour or will 65000 colours be OK? Or even 32000?
Secondly, have you cropped your animation?
Or - can you use the DirectShow object?
A CAD program we use includes 12 months of support and updates in the purchase price. If you want patches or support after that, you have to pay 20% of the purchase price to get another 12 months. ...
Or - you can just set the object to not be transparent in its Display Options properties. (Under Ink Effect - uncheck the Transparent box).
Are you using the Animation object to play the files? If so, you can change the frame duration of the avi at Start of Frame to whatever looks best.
Not a silly question at all. The hard part is making sure that the user only enters number characters - with no letters or special characters.
Take a look at Marcello's Input object (in Bonus...
This works for me:
On pressing the Space Bar:
.....Change animation sequence to Walking
.....Force animation frame to 7
.....Restore animation frame
The animation jumps...
Are you sure that you need the Active Picture object? The Active object has a Load Frame action that replaces an existing frame of a given animation & direction by a graphic file from the disk.
1) Read this MMF thread:
2) I would have 3 event lines - one to create each colour. Depending on the value...
Taofeld, was it just your games or MMF games in general?
It's an MMF 1.5 extension. I'm guessing you need it to open an old example file?
If you place the .cox (MMF1.5) versions of the extension in MMF2's extensions/mmf1 folder then you will be able to...
That's a useful workaround for any others, thanks :)
Neat water drops :)
Hmmm, try removing the tick from the invisible at start box, saving the file and running it again. Then replace the tick and see what happens.
(Just a stab in the dark, this one).
What is the background colour of the frame?
/me ducks to avoid thrown missile :D
Where can I find that? Sounds like a neat extension. [/quote]
It isn't available to the public yet. I must watch the video myself to find out exactly when :) (Too busy sorting food and stuff...
If its fireballs you want, watch the video of Chris Carson's presentation at the convention. (Flame extension). The video should be available in a few days or so, courtesy of Chris Street.
Hmmm, it does say in the 'What's new in MMF2' section of the help that the task priority object is no longer needed in MMF2.
So you should try your new version without it on a fresh machine if...

Which extensions do Xbomber and your lagging MMF2 app have in common?
I think there may be a specific problem with your sound card - it's just a guess, so I'm getting you to try out things that might narrow down the problem.
You don't need to use a different channel...
Differently in what way?
Patrick :D The bug is there certainly, but it shows up with a much simpler example. Anything you type into the Use a Calculation box for the Restrict Actions condition simply gets ignored.
The example on CD #2 is for an index search only. The example also has a few comments in it that suggest it isn't quite complete :)
Personally, I'd render in a 3D development app and import the graphics to MMF in .png format.
If you're interested in effects generally, this is an interesting list of tutorials:...
1) I added a File Object to the frame, so that I could get the MyDocuments address from it.
2) Added a string to the frame to get the first filename that met the conditions.
3) Set the search...
Here's the hotline:
It is Sunday though, so I expect Jeff is down at the motor- racing tracks :)
You need to be in Admin mode on your PC, and you need to have the original CD.
Also, you can't upgrade if you're using a demo version.
Patrick, you don't need anything that complicated :) Just enter 10 or 100 into the Restrict Actions 'Use a calculation' box - MMF ignores it completely.
How many different sounds are you using? Try switching multisamples OFF and see if that helps.
Also try using no more than 16 channels.
Cyro, have you tried setting Maximum Speed to zero? This often works when just setting the speed to zero fails.
Anything done in frame 2 would be 'forgotten' when loading the Saved Frame 1 file. But if you were just wandering into another room and back again, that wouldn't matter. You'd need an external ini...
Please let me know if you intend to eat with us in the hotel restaurant on Saturday evening (7pm). Roughly £20 per head a la carte meal.

Try build 246 and then report back - there've been scores, if not hundreds, of fixes since build 241. It's pointless going over old ground again if the problem has already been solved.

Well, why don't you do as Yves asked, and reduce the size of your app so he can download it? Name in red, right? Clickteam person. :)
No, not at all. It's a good sign - it suggests that your game can be easily fixed by Yves.
It's true - once you're deep into the world of work you might be sent anywhere. Rikus is now in Canada, Burkey's in Japan, Mark Pay's in Ireland and DavidN's in the States. It's a bit expensive for...
