It could be that the hot spot in the active was accidentally moved way out to the left.
Tiling the background trees / scenery etc in 256 by 256 tiles has improved the scrolling remarkably. Not that it really mattered; when playing the original I noticed it had very choppy scrolling....

It's hard to pin point your problem without the mfa. You'll get a solution faster by posting it. However I understand if you want to protect your project.
By the way have you tried ticking 'stick to objects' in the actives properties, it's a tick box under speed, deceleration, acceleration. It might also stop your problem.
Look up camera easing to solve the shake. The Almighty Zentaco has a great camera example that uses easing or so a search here in the forums.
