This isn't what I am after but I appreciate the reply.
Edit: it seems all the sub folders do have read only attribute.
Is there a way to make everything not read only?
Thank you in advance.
Question is in the title :)
I'm wanting to force the install directory (inc. all sub folders and files) to be NOT read only.
Currently with my install program (using latest ICP Pro) is...
Thank you Phi.
I have managed to accomplish the checking on net core using the dotnet --list-runtimes command instead of registry key :)
If anyone else wants the code, here it is:
We at MS2 would like to ask politely for a new feature.
Current ICP allows us developers to choose what start menu options to produce as well as desktop shortcuts. We like that; however...
Disregard. Seems that the icon index did not work how I thought it did. Misunderstood the feature. Once icon index was set as 0 for each start menu option, everything works as should. My apologies.
Couple of issues I've come across with build #45 on Win 10 Pro x64 (20H2):
1) Uninstaller shortcut does not work on Win 10 start menu. I suspect this is due to the OS right click menu...
Thanks. I'll have a gander and have a go at that myself using the site (https://ss64.com/nt/) for aid - when I can find time.
I much appreciate the reply, so huge thank you!
Sadly, I'm no good at writing batch files so put up a help request on stackoverflow which got deleted - so much for asking for help.
Is there a way to check what version of .net core is installed? And if it isn't, a way to offer to install it?
How would you do this if there is a way?
Thank you in advance for any...
This didn't answer my question lol.
I have a query regarding the setting "Do not install if ... A higher version of the file is already installed".
What happens if the file has no version in it's properties? Does the file not...
Discovered a bug. When selecting more than one file, then selecting "Exclude File" from the right click menu, only the first file highlighted is removed.
Unsure if it is a bug or not....
WORKS that way. thank you. Maybe update the help file to include this?
Never mind, just ticked it and it doesn't ask for a size lol
What size should I limit each data file to? 2GigaByte (GB)? So say 16000000 kilobit (Kb)?
I've been using ICP3 build 50 to build a setup.exe for a 7GB project. The install.exe is created without issues (no errors) but when it comes to running the .exe within Win 7 x64...
Just as the title says. ICP3 build 50. If your installer has a .wmv file which installs to the desktop (#desktop#) - unsure if any other location, it installs with .$$A extension. AVI seems fine as...
I've made a batch file program which enables/disables a wireless adapter as my dads new laptop "aeroplane key" doesn't work with Windows 7 (as a Wifi FN key).

Think the first file is to do with how it is named as I only just realised it is "Ajtˇ Csengő 2.wav" within explorer.
checked the second file (the jpg) and this is named "Stargard...
it's occurred again this time on a jpg file (no weird characters - could it be the length of the path?):
I'm getting a weird error when building an exe ... see screen shot:
Yet when I navigate to the file...
Fair enough. I'll wait to see the end result then :)
Simple question out of curiosity. Thanks for the answer :)
Could I give the ICP 3 a try and see what it's like at the moment and provide some feedback?
:( hope that ICP 3 does =D
A stable BETA ... why not make it alpha? confused lol I wouldn't mind giving it ago. Does this mean I'd become a beta tester?
I'm building some large installers (about 1GB) but am finding that within Task Manager that ICP is only using about 15 to 25mb of RAM, and only 25% of my CPU. Why is this so low?...
Thanks for the offer Yves but I need total stability in this project. Thanks for the information as well :)
PS: I'm looking forward to the release of ICP 3.
Question is in the title but I'll repeat here ... What's the largest file (any extension) that ICP build 43 can include?
ok. Is there a way to be informed? e.g. RSS feed or email? If so where do I sign up to receive it, Thanks.
Do you know when this be released?
Renaming the file is not possible due to the default structure of the game and other files relating to that file. Why isn't it supported? Is it possible for it to be supported in the next build?...
Hi all, getting the following error message when creating (building the installer) an installer for a German based game (OMSI Bus Simulator):
Just an idea but could you possibly consider an easier way to update ICP to the latest build?
i.e. where by it checks online for the latest version available; if it is a newer version...

Hi Yves, my question was more about the path changing rather than the folder name (i.e. the drive letter for which the files are installed).
Did test it and it worked after changing the name of...
Quick question really; if you run an installer and install a set of files to a drive letter of say "E"; but the drive letter then changes to say "G" (i.e. you switch off an external source...
As I said Yves .. not sure if it is a bug.
Just remember this was in a situation where I developed a patch and the ORIGINAL uninstaller was being updated :)
i.e. The patch.exe did not have a...
I had some issues with a thumbs.db which did not uninstall or get removed using the "Additional files to remove" feature of ICP build 32. You read my issue here

Found a fix to this.
As it won't uninstall the thumbs.db / Thumbs.db file I added the file to the installation (making sure it installed).
Ran the uninstaller and it now deletes without...
That didn't work :(
IS it because I have the uninstaller which has been updated is that why?
Though I made sure all files which were present in the original were included in the patch so that...
ah thanks yves i will try it tomorrow
Right tested and the thumbs.db is not getting removed. The directories are being deleted now, but I have tried both 'Thumbs.db' and 'thumbs.db' and yet the uninstaller will not get rid of it.
Tested adding the listed directories above Yves and it does delete them this time :)
Thumbs.db hasn't but suspect it is because I used a lower case t
Will update in a minute
Sorry, say if I specify the one file 'thumbs.db' which is in the following directory (also listed above); will it delete all other directories? OR ... do I have to list the directories to remove as...
Not sure about this. Do I have to add all empty directories (the ones that are not being deleted by my uninstaller (updated uninstaller)) are listed below:
Thanks Yves :D
Hi, will add the thumbs.db but why would it leave empty directories?
If they are left behind is there a way to add them to this list?
Is it possible to delete empty directories left by uninstallers using the following?
If so; is it just a case of putting the directory path (in my case by using the program files option with my...
Nope. The uninstaller text. My first installer's uninstaller provides a message saying version 2.5 has been successfully uninstalled but after adding my patch the product becomes version 3. However...
Hi all, tested and it does work (a mentioned in above post).
Shame we can't change the text (will this be available in the future)?
Thanks in advance all,
Right this is a little complex so I'll explain it first before asking my question.
I have a .exe utility which is linked in the start menu.
In the first installer this is linked under the start...
oh. Ah well it was an idea :)
Call it BETA then :P
Have you thought about splitting it up. Then you only would have one installer and a .dat file :)
Just an idea for now as a temp solution. Then they wouldn't need...
Thank. Won't be using the resource ID. Only needed to know if it started at 0 or 1. Thanks again,
Hi simple query ...
Does the Icon Index number start at 0 or 1? thank you :)
It's some person giving me some weird instructions. When I installed the program it registered. There's did not :(
Hence why I want to activate it through my installer as well.
Don't know why....
You are right. it didn't :(
I did it manually.
Whats this about the /F command? Would this automate it?
Got it working. The dll file does not overwrite and the registry does seem to have it activated after running the installer. Thanks anyways :)
I only want to know if it will activate in the registry when the option 'Do not install if ... A file with the same name is already installed' is ticked.
If this option is ticked, I know the file...
If I include the file within the installer but choose not to install it if the file already exists would it still activate it even if not installed?
Thanks for the advice :)
Think I do need it checked because it is used by an application so can you just clarify this for me :)
I've managed to get the file from the other installer (just took it from the system32 directory).
So have included it in my installer. Do I need to have it install in order to register? (i.e. not...
Hi, thanks for this :)
Will it work with XP 64 bit editions as I found issues with a beta tester with the above. He had to do it this way:
I have a .dll file I wish to activate in the registry. I can do it using the above way using the windows run feature.
Is there a way to do this in ICP? Thanks in advance :)
Got the installer working great.
With the bat file when selecting it to run from the main menu it only opens the My Computer (explorer.exe).
Is there a way to modify the code to know where the...
ah .. explains it! Thanks, working perfectly.
In regards to the bat file running after the second installer I think I will add it to the second installer instead. Just a long job lol
When I run the bat file outside of ICP, it opens My Computer - aka explorer.exe within the task manager which you would expect so it must be a command line issue? (I'm on Windows XP Pro).
I tested this just now and it isn't working so need a little help:
Error prompted with = The Path 'C:\Program' does not exist or is not a directory. (I then press ok and nothing...
Its alright. I can simply stretch the image.
thanks for the aid in the bat file. Much appreciated. Something new today :D
Thank you :)
PS: Is there a way in ICP to position the installer window, say in the bottom right corner rather than dead center? i.e. The window obstructs the image in the background when...
I got it working for the path. Outside of ICP.
Confirm this for me:
My sub directory is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\PS MSTS Stuff\Graphic Settings
Ah. How do I do that; I'm assuming in notepad then save it as a ".bat" file ... run that at the end of the installation.
If the folder is located:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train...
I know its easy to open a certain file once you exit your created installer. Is it possible to open a folder directory containing files instead, of so how? Thanks in advance,
Cheers replied now.
Oh thank you Yves. Do you need the file names and default locations?
Oh. Is the only option C++ / VC? then?
One friend has suggested using PHP code to do it:
Ah, I have a couple of friends who know C++ so will ask them for some help (assuming that is VC?)
Could VB do it? I have done VB before and realise it is extremely similar. It would be much appreciated for any help.
PS: I have Visual Studios and MSDN library available to me so it is possible...
Thanks for the quick reply Yves,
I am a little unsure what you mean by little program file?
Could you point me in the direction of the sort of file and I can go away and learn how to do this...
I remember when I did software development for MS Flight Sim that I was able to add or change string values in a config file.
I have a .eng file which contains the following:
I've come accross a problem and thought I'd share it as it is a feature I would like to have:
You need to delete a file (or set of files) that exist after the installation...
See this post :)
FUTURE FEATURE ICP ????
Cheers, as I said it is working. I'll turn off the 'read-only' feature just in case :)
Hang on; what I've got above works fine. With regards to different operating system languages should I use what you put or is this ok for what I have currently ... have tested and it works fine:
Think I got it now.
Used the search function within regedit to find the 'FS9.exe' and I found the following key which seems to be picking up the correct directory thanks anyways:
OK, I've read the help file and understand its possible to do it via the registry entry.
How do I go about finding out the registry information that I need to lookup as its got me in a right loop...
How do we go about finding out where a program is installed to provide a default installation directory?
I want to install to the main Flight Simulator 9 directory.
