This is indeed a great thread and should be helpful to anybody searching sidescroller enemy movement into in future.
Good points regarding restoring animations within the loop, Vol - never thought...
Great example... quite similar to what I was trying to do. In an ideal world, you'd still want to be able to play animations as per normal (i.e When X then play animation Blah) and not worry about...
vSv, for animations, are you just having the enemy revert back to the animation and frame within the same loop after the "detector" animation frame has played? I imagine this way, you can still use...
The thing I can't get my head round with a level editor - how do you handle scripted events such as cutscenes and just plain unique, out of the blue level-specific stuff happening?
This would be the best solution, actually.
For Alt Vals...
Some way of selecting an active that belongs to a qualifier and choosing an option to simply copy all Alt Vals to every other active belonging to that qualifier would be great. Of...
I just don't bother with flags, especially with the higher Alt. Vals limit. I just use Alt. Vals being set to 1 or 0.
Thanks for the input, Yves. Very promising!
Fantastic summary - thanks for taking the time to write that... and if Steam configuration is disabled for the game on Steam, would you left with, effectively, the non-Steam situation?
Can somebody summarise the issue(s) both within Steam and outside of Steam definitively? I an unable to replicate any of these issues on my own setup.
Perhaps we can all throw some ideas around as...
I think some sort of response from a Clickteam staff member would be really good here - even if it's just some.thoughts, ideas, whether a new extension or revised Joypad2 extension is in the works. I...
I only own one known Click title on Steam - Environmental Station Alpha. The game appears to have been made with MMF2 and it has good gamepad support. Never noticed any issues there. I take it this...
This is worth examining a bit further. I would like to think my game will eventually make it's way onto Steam - I'm using VACCiNE.
I do believe a recent commercial Fusion release, Dark Devotion...
Not sure how it's not a necessity - the vast majority of Fusion games are platformers or otherwise are 16-bit-era type games. Who willingly plays platformers on a keyboard?!
OK - I've never seen someone go "oh my, I'd better go and turn this music off!" when I've watched them play a game or load up a game they're in the middle of etc. I always think I'm not getting the...
VACCiNE is an outstanding piece of work - but it's utterly ridiculous how a community solution is needed for what should be basic functionality in a modern game engine. I don't want to cause a...
Huh? Is this a thing? I never turn music off - I count it as part of the whole experience, with both indie games and commercial games. Do most people really turn music off in games?
I'm also doing it this way - all of my main game events are in a "Main" group and this pauses when it's deactivated. Vol raises a good point regarding animations - you will have to start and stop...
I think that looks cool ^
I can never get collision masks to work and just end up using detectors...
I can't remember if I posted in this thread or not, but I felt I should give it a bit of a shill - I'm using this in my project and I approve of this camera engine. Same for VACCiNE too.
Sir Vol, this looks absolutely amazing. How in the heck does Spryke run at 120+ FPS. My game runs at a much lower resolution and grinds to a halt when I start generating lots of particles...
I believe this wouldn't be possible, as at run-time, all backdrops are "pasted" down and would lose any identifiable data attached to them. Of course, only a member of Clickteam can confirm that!
What you're asking would equate to rather advanced knowledge of Fusion - to create a versus 2D fighting game, at least a modern style fighting game, you would need to create a system that uses...
Also - is Fusion one of the apps compatible? You show Blender as an example. If Fusion had that sort of treatment - i.e. shortcut keys for that, then... SOLD.
Thanks for confirming! Any idea of the rough price when it's released?
This looks great - I can't believe nobody else has made something like this so elegantly (that I know of). One question/concern: I see it's available on Steam. Is there going to be a non-Steam...
Yes, I believe Yves has explained that to get rid of this restriction is nearly impossible without major rehaul of CF 2.5.
Perhaps in CF 3?
Anothet thought that I just mentioned in another thread - an option that will set all newly created Actives as Global. Perhaps with a warning dialogue that warns the user of the implications.
For...
I hope so - that's what I'm doing. The downsides I can see so far are:
- You need to make each object Global so that you can change it from anywhere. I don't think there is an option to...
OK, I've been struggling with this for a few days. Before I can this idea completely and try something else, here is the issue. I'll try to make a GIF demonstrating the issue if need be:
- I have...
I'd like to concur. I really would like this added too.
Sure, but INI++ has built-in encryption. I think it's only unencrypted when actually being read/written, as I have monitored my ini save while my game is running and it's still encrypted.
Sure, it...
Ok great. Thanks. My game is indeed PC only and is likely to stay that way.
Right, quick one. I've never made it far enough into a project to have to worry about save games before now, but I always assumed I would use INI++ or the Array object to save arrays and values...
I was pulling my hair out with that... until a good friend and fellow Fusion user told me it was NewLine$. You use it like "blah blah" + NewLine$ + "text on new line blah blah"
Well there it is. Thanks for the replies all!
A suggestion and also a bit of a vent... why is the Expression Editor missing a whole load of shortcut buttons for various arguments/commands/functions/what-have-you? Such as Atan2, NewLine$ for...
Yves literally looked at an example of a problem I had and found out it was an extension. He replied at 0130am and sent a fixed version of the extension to me.
I'm happy to pay a bit extra to a...
Aww come on. I literally dream of being able to do this. It is really jarring sometimes to flick between the two editors. Granted, at least you can access Active Objects directly from the objects...
Will it ever be possible to have the event/level editors in entirely separate windows so that, for example, one can have the event editor on one screen and the level editor on the other. The...
Small suggestion. Could child events be a tick-box, instead of going straight into the New Condition dialogue, could it just create a blank line. I find that a lot of what I do involves just dragging...
Thanks for the thoughts, Julian82!
My game isn't a "true" Metroidvania. Metroidvanias are like roguelikes - the fan-base can get weird as heck over what fits into the genre anyway... essentially...
I can't really get fired up without some graphics in place - I've never used placeholders, but I have re-done sprites later. I definitely don't bother with backdrop tiles until later on. Two years...
My game will create the "illusion" of an open world by offering a sort of fast-travel from one area to another. These areas will be of varying sizes, possibly quite large each and also may be...
Hi all. Yes, I am aware as I advance my project that I am leaning more and more on these very forums - despite using Clickteam products since 1997.
Not to worry! My question is around mini-maps in...
I must be missing something here. External detectors surely don't come into it with this issue. Can you not just make an event like:
If koopa is overlapping koopa
+ Alt. Val "spinning" of koopa...
Another thing that tipped me over the edge was that my game pauses for various reasons - accessing menus and whatnot. When this happens, the "Main Engine" group gets disabled.
Because I cannot...
Yeah, I'm working entirely in the Global event editor and I've just moved all my enemy code to a sub-group, with wach enemy having it's own group. Already feels much better as now I can easily...
Quick one, would like to know thoughts here... is there any point in using behaviours outside of organisation? Is it purely so you can nestle events for an object into that object so it's not "in the...
Oh my, if only! I've wanted that for years.
I don't think I get what this is doing. Where do you load the string?
Hi all - does anybody know of any examples, tutorials or have any general advice on enemies (or the player or whatever for that matter) that are made of multiple parts, specifically with legs that...
Excellent add-on, in that all of the features are great. The major ones are obviously the variable limit and the global qualifiers, but there are many, many improvements. I'd argue that these...
I'm getting to the stage in my project where I can start thinking about levels and how large each frame will be - if I stick to a hard and fast rule, for example never exceed a certain frame size -...
Sure, but if OP is talking about the fluidity of the movement, nothing can be done there, no?
There's no such thing as 0.02 or 0.14 etc of a pixel. A pixel is either a whole pixel or not. The best you can do is sample the image to fake the illusion that it is moving that slowly smoothly?
Thanks for the replies - I thought the biggest strain on the runtime was more about the graphics draw - https://clickfusion.academy/1000-backdrop-objects-vs-1-active-object/
No takes on this?
Use the File Object. In the INI++ expression where you set the folder, have it pull the appdata directory from the File Object.
Actually, look in the properties of the INI++ object, can't you set...
Hey all. I'm an old school Clickteam product user. Back in the old days, it was standard practice to just have all your tiles as backdrops.
Now, I'm seeing conflicting views on this. If I can use...
Forget it. I figured it out immediately after posting this thread.
FYI for anybody curious - I had no idea this worked now, but in Fusion 2.5, you can actually manually resize the window frame...
This may have been asked before, but I can't find a clear-cut answer.
My game runs at a resolution of 480 * 270. Naturally, I want a fullscreen option which is going to be the defacto way to play...
Yup. I feel pretty silly that I didn't think of this (ensuring the base frame property is set to the frame in question). Thanks again!
I recently added a new buffer frame just before the frame in question. I had no idea I would need to reset the base frame. Thanks, very well spotted!
Feature request - can the base frame setting...
Re-posting this here too as it refers to this build and is potentially a major issue... please feel free to either delete my thread or this post.
I've been using the Global Event Editor primarily...
I've been using the Global Event Editor primarily for weeks (since the 2.5+) with no problems. Suddenly, I noticed that all of my events are referring to active object's alt. values with their...
I believe there is a cURL extension - I swear I've seen a game made in Fusion that had a cURL library file in the game directory, leading me to believe that there must be some sort of extension to...
I'm using active objects to store all my game settings, attributes, stats, etc.
The INI+ object can easily save and load them entirely too, which is a huge plus.
Did this get resolved? Are there problems with Joypad2 on Steam?
To clarify - if my Active Object is set as a Global Object, and I have an event in the Global Event Editor to create it somewhere, this event will not work unless that Active Object is added to the...
A problem I thought I'd just tackle "later on" and now it is later on...
I have three layers behind the "main player" layer that scroll at different coefficients to create a parallax effect. The...
OK, when you put it like that... good point! I'm working on a side scroller, it's way too far in production to change my movement now, but I have everything I possibly can assigned to Alt.Vals so...
Is it, though? What's wrong with a FastLoop movement? From what I can see, this requires an extension (I try to minimise reliance on extensions unless absolutely necessary, personally) and it still...
Working for me now too - thanks!
Got a reply from Yves. It's specifically using the "load object" function. Unfortunately for me, I plan to store lot of player data just as alt. Vals and then use Ini++ to save/load them easily as I...
Hi Yves. How do I do that? Upload it somewhere?
EDIT: Actually, it still crashes as admin - I think I got confused there with an older build. It is definitely to do with saving data into the Ini++...
I've got a problem since updating earlier this evening. I found my game was crashing whenever I was writing settings to an ini file using the Ini+ extension. I found I had to compile my game and run...
Great advice and confirms that I'm on the right track. Thanks!
Hi all - as my game comes along further, I'm thinking about how I'm using Ini++ in conjunction with the file object to successfully save files in a way that Windows 7-10 likes. Where do most games...
Good points. I was also curious as to how ini file saving continues to work on Mac too. I see plenty of Fusion games released on both Windows and Mac and beyond - I wonder if anybody who has released...
I'm developing my project on Windows with a view to eventually publish on Windows-based PC platforms, such as Steam etc. My question is with regards to other platforms, such as MacOS, since I've used...
This is amazing and very easy to implement - http://clickstore.clickteam.com/plugins/tools/vaccine_2
Has anybody successfully used the collision mask detection functionality (found under Storyboard Controls in the event editor) as a replacement for having collision detectors for, let's say, enemies...
I have an issue where my game experiences a slight delay when a sound is first triggered - as if loading the sound is causing the game to hang momentarily. This happens on all machines I've tested...
Use the Ultimate Full Screen object. It's a God send for me - http://ultimatewalrus.com/barebones.php?gameid=ufs
OK guys - can anybody help me here. No matter where I save to, using the File object to locate the Users\[username]\appdata folder, a folder I would expect the current user to have full access to, I...
Thanks - this is useful, however, I don't think Windows 7 and later uses ..\Documents and Settings anymore, it's C:\Users\ nowadays?
Ah. I did not think of that. I've been trying to find an expression! OK - so I can use retrieve the path from the file object in the expression editor?
Hi guys - where do you guys all save files? I can save a file if it's to a "hard coded" path - for example, C:\ProgramData\Test\ but this is not really correct. I'm trying to make it save into the...
I'm so rusty - last time I used Fusion it was Win7 and I certainly didn't do any data saving. I grew up learning it on Win98 and XP! Glad it wasn't necessarily my coding though.
So I gave up on the INI++ object, thinking it either has an issue or I just don't know how to use it - so I used the Array Object instead and had the same issue... I saw it write my .arr file but...
Hi all. I'm trying to test out the INI++ 1.5 (latest version - January 2017) and have noticed that the help .html seems to correspond to an older version. I can get it to work when loading an object...
