Unique mouse movement (cursor follows character) -need help!

I'm right now trying to program a new mouse movement I came up with.

I tried, unsuccessfully, to make the mouse follow the player (an active object as the player) as it moves; doesn't matter the distance as long as the mouse follows the character.

Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

Do you mean an animal mouse or the mouse cursor?

As far as I know,.you can't have the mouse pointer follow an active object. The other way around,..yes.

you probably could with the mouse object extension (it can force mouse cursor position),
or you could use a "fake" object to behave like a mouse cursor..
..but wouldn't it be awkward for the player?

Can't picture how the thing would work

Here I'll try to make it clearer:

there's an active object and it's changing x position by +1 every second (just some speed). the mouse cursor is in a random location on the screen, but it's also changing it's x position relative to the player object's speed (which in this case is how fast it's changing it's x position). so as the active object changes it's x position, the mouse cursor also changes it's x position (doesn't matter where their y position is).

Anyway, thank you for the responses!

Yeah, I think this one is going to be hard to program...Let alone even find. I'll still keep looking!

After reading this post I started toying with this idea just to see if it was possible and I ended up with something that's actually kind of interesting. Sort of a puzzle-platformer. Will post a demo once I've polished a few details.

Put this together very quickly but I had a blast doing it and may develop it into something more substantial. It's a platformer with arrow controls. The reticle is always opposite the player on the X coordinate, but you can use the mouse to control the Y. Clicking (or pressing CTRL) will launch a fireball in the direction of the reticle with the goal of destroying the obstacle-blocks with fireballs. But you can't just destroy all the obstacles, some of them are needed to reach the goal.

With a story, some better graphics and enemies, this could be something.

To answer OP's question, you can indeed force the mouse-cursor position using the Mouse object. But it's bad practice because if you need the mouse to close the window, etc, you can't use it freely since the game is controlling its position. I found it was better to create an active object that followed the mouse instead.
