    Question How can I use a custom graphic as a scrolling bar counter?

    Hey Clickteam,

    I'm building a game and want to add a custom graphic as my counter. The counter is going to be a vertical gradient one that will count vertically and when it reaches the top will reset and start counting again.

    Here is the graphic that I'm going to implement. My guess is to set it as an active but how would I make this count like the counter object? Thanks Clickers!

    Hahaha. Yeah, I know. It's what I am using now but I paid for some art and I think it's so cool looking.

    C'mon, look at how pretty that bar is!!!

    Solution 1:
    Use the image to create many animation frames so that it makes a bar that starts from bottom and increases into the full bar. Set counter type to animation.

    Solution 2:
    If the background behind the bar is a solid color, you can fake the effect you want by creating an active object with the same color as the background, place it above the bar and scale it vertically according to the counter value. I can go into details if this is the approach you want.

    Hey Popcorn!

    Solution 2 is such a great idea! How could I scale a masked background vertically?

    Thanks for the ideas and the help!

    Popcorn,

    What a neat example to fake a scrolling bar! Thank you!

    If I may press further, I'm using my counter kind of like a power meter. Just like kicking a field goal in Tecmo Bowl from NES. You had to have played that.

    When I press spacebar, I want the counter to start scrolling upwards automatically. When the counter gets to it's maximum height it resets and starts again. And whenever I press spacebar again, it stops the counter. How can I achieve this with your example?

    You would do that as you would any other counter, as the bar gets its value from a real counter.

    Remove the events that currently increases and decreases the counter.

    Replace them with these events. Put the new events above the other bar event.

    * Upon pressing Spacebar
    - Bar: Toggle flag 0

    * Bar: Flag 0 is on
    - Counter 1: Add 1 to counter

    * Counter 1: Current value = maxvalue("Counter 1")
    - Counter 1: Set current value to 0
