What happens if a file has no version (misc file do not install if ... option)

Hi,

I have a query regarding the setting "Do not install if ... A higher version of the file is already installed".

What happens if the file has no version in it's properties? Does the file not install or is it installed?

I'm unsure if I should be using the other option (do not install if ... A file with the same name is already installed) instead.

I have files (text and manifest files mainly). They have no file version but I don't want the installer files installing if the files already exist (and they are newer).
