Maybe this question is to newbie but if someone could help it would be appreciated.
I am wanting to do a dig dug style game. I was wondering what would be the best movement to use. I was thinking of just the 8 direction movement but how do would I make so that the character can walk on the grass without walking up into the sky. If I used platform style then that seems like it would be a problem because I don't want to delete whole tiles at once.
I also need to delete the underground tiles in a partial way as the character moves like in dig dug. Also I want the partial deletion to not be a perfect square but with rough edges like in dig dug.
I was thinking that the background tiles will have to be on one layer and other obstacles and such will need to be on another layer so that only the background tiles are deleted.
