Question 50 Global values to track coin placement or something better?

Right now, my game saves global values to keep track of what was collected in a level.

For example, I have 6 chests that contain a Flask each. These chests use global values so that when the player reloads the same level, they are not there anymore unless they didn't pick it up. A simple 0 that turns to 1. 0 being that the chest is still available, and 1 for the chest already opened.

    Start of Frame
    - If Global value "ChestFlask01" = 1

    Action
    - Destroy "ChestFlask01"

    and so on ...

Now, my levels has a maximum of 50 coins that the player can get from a particular level and I obviously don't want the player to farm the level for coins. Should I create 50 global values and 50 different coins to identify which one has been picked up or is there a much better way of keeping track which coins have been taken already?

    I'm looking for suggestions.

    Any help would be appreciated

What you're looking for is an Array. Arrays can store numerical or text data, and are very easy to work with once you get the hang of them. You can't name the individual cells in an array, but you can very easily keep track of them. So for instance, if you wrote down that the first chest was at array position X0Y0, you can then set its closed state to 0 and its open state to 1. Then you can store the item type in said chest to X0Y1, with 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. being a specific item type. You can even save arrays as external files, so when the player leaves the game and comes back, the chests are in the same state the player left them.

Here's Snail's tutorial on arrays. This guy is a treasure trove of clickteam fusion knowledge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDJeUDNc_kE

I knew about arrays but I was apprehensive about it ... but that video really helped a lot.

    Thank for the link.

Me too. I thought he took his channel offline but then I see it's up but he hasn't made a new video in a few years. Heck, some of em are even out of date, like the "Don't use Flags cuz you can't name them" video, lol.

To be fair it only took Clickteam 50 years to let us name flags. Now we are getting Fusion 2.5+ when Fusion 3 is coming. Talk about LATE! I swear... if 2019 is not the year of Fusion 3, I'm jumping ship!!

    Frustration setting in.....

thats kinda silly though, isn't it? what specific feature unique to Fusion 3 do you need that you won't have in 2.5/2.5+ ?

@Edel we do realise that users really really want Fusion 3 now, and that is frustrating (for us too!) that it hasn't been released yet. We are taking our time because after some big delays due to change in staff and other factors, we need to now get this one right first time. We'll get one chance to make a splash with F3 so it needs to be a polished and well featured release from day 1.

F2.5+ is part of our commitment to keep the highly capable engine of Fusion growing and bringing even more power to users now, borrowing some of our ideas from F3 so that users can take advantage now. We have arguably the most successful indie title to date amongst our users' creations and an ever growing list of successful titles and new ones coming out and most importantly enabling users to make a real career/living from their work.

We know people want Fusion 3 now but I'd ask everyone to keep in focus the backdrop of very successful developers who are achieving this in F2.5 and keep using this powerful tool whilst we perfect F3
