Parallax Wave Rolling Effect - Help Needed

    Hello all!

I am need of a math wizard to assist my pea brain with this. I'm trying to achieve this "rolling" wave effect where sprites are on separate layers and have a slight delay in their sine wave movement, giving a "rolling" effect similar to this at 14:19
    https://youtu.be/Kpjnti7JlpI?t=859

The problem is, I'm getting more of a "breathing" effect, rather than a "rolling" effect as seen above. Here is my example.

How would I go about this? I'm stumped. Thanks in advance!!

Give each wave a unique offset value. If you have 3 waves, it could be for instance 0, 20 and 40.
    Always set y to base + offset + wavedistance * sin((timer / 10.0) + offset ).

Thanks Popcorn! I slightly modified the formula and got the effect I was looking for. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction! I'm attaching an MFA for anyone that comes through that needs something similar.

    Base Y + Offset + Wavedistance * Cos(( timer / 7.0 + Offset )) * Layer

@piscesdreams It looks great now! Btw, did you make those waves in the video yourself? If so, would you like to share how you went about that? What tool did you use? They look awesome!

    Thank you very much!

I modified the water and did the lighting, shaders and whatnot. It used this product in a Daz Studio and the iRay Render Engine. It was somewhat tricky to tile though, but I finally got it.

EDIT: Here is a video of the animated water using the above example.

    Thank you!
I remember the good ole days when you could judge a console generation by how "real" its water looked. I remember seeing the water in Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts and just thinking how amazing that looked. LoL
