    Sub-application and Position in Layers

Running in Windows: I have found that no matter which layer I place a sub-application in, the sub-application always appears above everything else in the game. This happens no matter what properties I set. This happens even if I create the sub-application during runtime. The DirectX options have no effect on this.

I have the exact same issue with seemingly no solution. Did you ever find a fix? I've been stuck for weeks.

    Solution

This is how I solved the issue.

I have a main game frame which acts as the host for multiple sub-applications.

I have 5 sub-apps, each on a different layer, and each one connected to a different frame.

I have 5 frames with various content.

I place the sub-apps in the order I wish them to appear on screen.

Each frame has an Ini++ object, with global data. If I need any sub-app to interact with another, I send the information via the Ini.

It's a bit complicated at first, but it's actually nice because I can load and unload various maps and things without taking the player out of the main game frame.

Another follow-up. My previous solution still works, but I would like to know if it's possible to get this fixed so that sub-applications can adhere to the layers order. For example, if I have a sub-application, nothing will appear behind it, even if it's on a higher layer, unless it's another sub-app, and sometimes I need an object to be within the main frame and not in another sub-app. Thanks for your help, Devs.

Hey did you ever find a solution for this?

It would really be great for sub apps to adhere to the layer system... it would mean I wouldn't have to place my text blitting engine into each frame !

I have also been trapped for a long time, but it seems that this problem has not been solved yet. The following is the connection. In fact, it has not solved the problem.

Sub-apps are a special object. In fact it depends on the "Display as sprite" option. Without this option they have their own window (like buttons, edit boxes) and will always be displayed above everything else. No fix possible. If "Display as sprite" is selected, then "maybe" we could allow them to be displayed inside their own layer, but I think this would require important changes (for the moment they are displayed after everything is displayed and I think it was for a good reason but I can't remember which one).

Hey thanks Yves that makes perfect sense!
