Stopping a clickable object from firing an event multiple times

This one's an issue I've had to work around multiple times, but now I am wondering if there is a way to overcome it.

So when an object is clicked, first it deletes itself, then it fires an event, however, it seems to fire this event multiple times. Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks for any help!

Use a flag so the event fires only when the flag is on, and turns off as soon as the event fires?

Or depending what you're trying to do, e.g. add a specific value to a score when something is destroyed, try using the 'Only one action when event loops' statement.
