    Unhappy Object Trail behind player?

    I want to make a lantern that smoothly follows the player but doesn't go on top of it, Basically a thing that trails behind and stays a certain distance away. I don't know if this helps answer but I'm using the built in eight direction movement.

    If I'm understanding right, you want the flame of the lantern to trail off and fade behind it? Kind of like how onionskinning looks? If so, clone the flame of the lantern and run a few events like this;

    - Always -> Set direction to Dir("Lantern Flame") -> (then under "Order") Move object (Lantern Flame Trail) behind ("Lantern Flame")

    - Every 00" -02 -> create "Lantern Flame Trail at 0,0 from Lantern Flame

    - Every 00" -04 -> destroy "Lantern Flame Trail"

    Now just set the fade out to a low number under the object properties and you're good to go.

    Not really, what i'm looking for is an object that follows the player but doesn't just look towards it and go forwards. Something that smoothly follows the player

    Try setting the object that follows to a vector movement, add the clickteam movement object, and set an Always event, one that sets the object to the clicteam movement object, and add to it under the clickteam movement object - vector movement - direction - set direction towards point. Then just select the object you want to follow. Make sure to set the gravity strength to 0 as well under the properties. If you need an example i can put one together for you.
