Age of Empires - Anyone make an Engine yet like AOE? I am thinking about making one.

Well, it's that time again. Ideas are racing and one of the 2d games from back in the day that I loved was Age Of Empires.
Now, I am not planning on ripping it off or even copying the game play. Basically, I was just wondering if anyone made an engine that is anything like it.
I tried this once before and the players ( Computer - Unless clicked = Player ) worked well. However, the huge map was a strain on MMF2.5.
So, this attempt I will scale it down to be stretched. Basically, like AOE was back in the day.

Any help would be great. I will share what I create in this post as I progress.

    Thanks in advance.

That would be wonderful to have something like that made with CTF2.5.

I don't believe that anyone has made an AOE engine yet, but if you want to then I'd say go ahead! It would be cool to see something like this done in Fusion.

Well, there's this Command & Conquer game ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvlZpBQgOpI ) so I guess something like AOE also can be made.

Try this it was linked on steam by kisguri one of the clickteam crew. https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?url=http://www.clickteam.com/creation_materials/tutorials/download/RTS.zip

it asks for the Select Object - select.mfx extension you can get that at Phis excellent darkwire site. https://dark-wire.com/storage/extlist.php

Always interested in your projects so will be great to see what you make.

Awesome. Now I have to start over.
I made a bunch of code to click on the characters to make them go about their business, but the SELECT.MFX is way better.
    Thank you for your help.

So after trying the provided example from above. I am noticing a few issues with the control. Plus, when objects run into each other they end up eventually just being on top of one another when they move.
I am thinking to implement a pathfinding engine to this as it will keep the characters from walking over each other. I am also thinking to throw in a variable speed assigned to each character. This way, they all do not move at the same speed but depending on what is asked of them to do. Their speeds will increase or decrease. Same goes for if they are hungry or not.
I haven't abandoned the project. Just working on apps for the play store outside of this project.

Whipped something up cause I wanted to see if it would work and I had an hour to spare. I have the developer version but it *should* (hopefully) work with standard versions of CTF 2.5 since it doesn't use nested/child events (which would make this easier/more efficient). It does require 294 though since it makes use of "pick nearest object"

    basic RTS engine.zip

    Controls:
Select units individually (left click on a unit)
Deselect units (left click on empty space)
Select multiple units (left click + drag)
Add individual additional units to a selection (shift + left click)
Add multiple additional units to a selection (shift + left click + drag)
Move units (right click once units are selected)

It uses the built-in Box2D physics engine to stop units from clumping into the same spot

    Notes:
    - Uses Active Objects, Physics Engine, Layer Object
    - Uses some sample sprites from Fusion's built-in library
