It's the Animation of the Player Active.
Easiest way to make sure this doesn't happen is make the Player Animation active a Static Active and make a Circle or Square active the size of the Player Static active.
Then use the Circle or Square as the Player controller by creating and always event that force the Player Static active to do everything the circle or square does.

I.E. Circle or square is moving right. Player Static Animation looks right and animation is forced to walking or running of the circle or square.

All collisions should be linked to the Circle or Square. Because there is no animations. There is no issues with collisions.
I.E. The animation grows wider when running so if you are near a wall. The legs of the animation overlap the wall when you run into it. Thus causing the issues you explained.

Below is a picture Explaining it better.
Without the Blue Box, the player can get stuck in walls.
You can see with the first animation that the player is actually directly against the wall when the first animation of running starts.
When frame 2 shows up. The animation is forced over the wall. So, to fusion. You are now in the wall.

With the Blue Box, the Player can not get stuck in the walls because the box is the actual player.
The animation is just for looks.

Just make sure your Box or circle is the Size you need to keep all animations inside if you do not want any of the animations outside overlapping walls.
Also, never resize the box in game or give it animations, as that will defeat the purpose.

For me, the Box or Circle I use for games is typically a bit smaller then the animation and I force walls and such to overlap the animation.
This gives a little bit of depth to your game.
