Re: Can we have some UNIFORMITY please

I really like installers as long as they don't

Add a desktop shortcut to anything
Add anything to the start menu
Add anything to the control panel add/remove

The best thing about installers is -- All the files go to the right places.

    Why?
When a new person gets a ZIP and they don't know what to do they will most likely ask me <img src="/center/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Anything to reduce my load is always a positive,

Yeah, basically my MMF2AO format is just like installers, except there is no 100kb or whatever overhead to an otherwise 8kb extension.

You also get to see all the files that will be installed before you install them. I mean, with exe installers people could install stuff to your windows folder and you'd never know about it.

And yes, my format makes sure all files go to the right place (unless authors set them up to install things into the wrong place somehow, something you would catch quickly when looking at the MMF2AO files).

The MMF2AO format does not allow authors to create desktop/startmenu clutter, and they will not be listed in your control panel.

Unlike the typically non-annoying exe installers, the MMF2AO format _does_ allow users to uninstall MMF2AOs via the new Add-On Manager. So if you so wanted, you could easily remove an extension/add-on that you don't like.

Re: Can we have some UNIFORMITY please

Your talking about something that is not relative because a.t.m. there is no more competition :P

Maxx Games stopped the project for the sake of uniformaty and Code6... and made it opensource.
So MMF2AO will properbly be the new standard, but me will always prefer to use WINZIP because MMF2AO consumes a lot of resources. And since it is an MMF2 application it can be very tricky when Painshop Pro X is open. Beside that MMF2AO messes in the registery without cleaning it after uninstalling and it doesn't work clean at all.
Like everything is excuted on the harddrive and not in the memory.

My suggestion would be to rename the MMF2AO and MMF2AOINFO extensions to something simple... i have never ever seen a 10 character wide extension at the end of a filename till now :P

BTW, Code6, can you give me your e-mail adress? i will send to you the extension list website wwith the complete author login and everything. it will save you lots of time and provide the features authors like Matt would like to see. ("Buy Now" buttons, and stuff)
