    Dungeon Master Movement

    One thing I've often wondered is how to do a dungeon crawler engine ala The Dungeon Master/Eye of the Beholder series.

    Does anyone have any tips on how to do this in MMF2 they could post here or be so kind as to upload a small example ?

    I use mmf primarily for making/remaking retro games but this style of game continues to elude me <img src="/center/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

    Its not hard, because the movement was precalculated, the only thing you need to do is load /probably external/ background pictures. For example have an array with X,Y position. When you move in any direction, substract or add values..and load pictures with name str(X+"blah"+Y"). I have got this idea right know but it should work.

    Cheers, I'll have a wee play with the array object and give that a go.

    And oops, just noticed I was in the wrong forum when I posted this, sorry lol.

    yes, it should be relatively easy to do with MMF2 - the array object to store the map, some active objects, one for each position on the screen that can represent a 3D block at that position and just show / hide those active objects as according to the map, the players position on it and their orientation (N,S,E,W).

    I had a wee play just creating a simple arrow moving over the base of the dungeon.

    Not used the array object yet.
    I probably would if I was to make a proper game but for the sake of learning to crawl before I can walk in this area.... <img src="/center/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

    This would be stored off screen and the screen rendered in the middle.

    Now just to wrap my head around rendering the thing <img src="/center/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> .

    Would take a lot of pictures I think though given all the possible permutations of view points.
