    Music in Clickteam Products

I have been using GF 1.sometingorother for about two years now and I have never really acomplished anything other than fiddling with the systems and learning how to animate sprites. However, due to my vision for the games I wish to create, I have not gone through with any plan of mine trying to find the answer to this question. Is it possible to insert any music or sound that is not a WAV or BMP file? If not, is there any non expensive sound editing program that can transform a file into these file formats? If anyone can answer I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanx. ^^

In MMF2 you can use MP3, OGG, MIDI, MOD, WMA and other music formats. WAV is only useful for short game sounds, not long music.

... Really? Sweet!! Is that in the standard or "developers" version? And, if you don't mind me asking... how do you access it? (I only have the demo version, I dun't know if you can still use these... seriously, WMA?)

It's in the Standard Edition too.

All you have to do is select "play sample" (not music) from the event editor, as if you wanted to play a wav file. In MMF2, you can also select those other formats.

Some of the formats just have to be played with various objects. For example currently MP3 and WMA are only available (i think) through the DirectShow object. The MOD files are available through ModFX (In the bonus pack I think). WAV MIDI and OGG are all playable through MMF2's inbuilt sound system.

When you click "Play Sound" you can select: wav, ogg, aif, aiff, mod, it, s3m and xm.
When you click "Play Music" you can select: mid and rmi (I think?).

The DirectShow object can play everything with plugins installed. If you can open it with Windows Media Player, then so can you with the DirectShow object.

MP3 functionality is not built into MMF2 due to licensing issues. The Direct Show object can do this, though. Still, I wouldn't try to sell the product if I were you... you might get into legal trouble.

I recommend the directSHOW object, too. Used it several times in MMF1.5. With it you can controll the volume, save/load other files during runtime, mute, resume...
As for the file format I use WMA. They sound better than MP3 and Microsoft won't sue you if you use them ;-)
They only want to see some money if you want to sell a program that encodes WMA.
