    highlighting an object

An am trying to fix it so that an object is highlighted (or "glows") when the cursor is moved it but then returns to its normal state when the cursor is no longer over it. I have tried several different approaches but haven't found anything I like yet.

I am interested in knowing how any of the rest of you have succeeded in doing this in your games.

    Re: highlighting an object

If you're using one object instead of duplicates then simply:
    [:"blue"]
    If mouse over object: Highlight
    If mouse over object(negate): Dehighlight
    [/]
If you're using duplicates of objects:
    [:"blue"]
If mouse over object: Set ValueA (global value or counter) to Fixed value of object
If mouse over object(negate):Set ValueA to 0
Fixed Value of object = ValueA: Highlight
Fixed Value of object <> ValueA: Dehighlight[/]

Don't pad each condition with "only once when event loops" if the duplicates are near each other

    Re: highlighting an object

How do I do the actual highlighting? The closest action I have been able to find to highlight is the set semi-transparance action. This does the job but it does it by making the object "half invisible".

Is there an action in the Event menu called Highlight that I have not been able to find?

You will need to create a duplicate graphic with the "glow" drawn on it. Set it as a new direction or animation in your object. Change over to that direction or animation when you mouse over. Seems the easiest way to me.

Try the XOR effect. That makes it REALLY glowey-like <img src="/center/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />!

    Re: highlighting an object

I tried the XOR affect without good results. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

It looks like the best result I have gotten thus far is by altering the semi-transparancy (to a value of 64).

This is probably the method I will stick with. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Who knows, this might be a good thing to create a new extension to do?

It's possible, particularly with the ink effect SDK not far off.
