MMF 2 Dev – CD 1 CRC Error?

Err, only today received my package (neatly packed envelope), thanks for that) and CD 2 loaded just fine as well as the "Data" directory on CD 1. For yet unknown reason the other files on CD 1 do not work. When trying to copy them, there pops up a window explaining something about a CRC error.

The most difficult error is though when trying to load X:\Setup.exe (X of course the letter of the CD drive). It says (something like - I don't have an English version of Windows) "This program is not a valid Win32 application".

Very frustrating because I try and try but can't install the software!

Does the CD have any scratches or marks on it?

If giving it a quick wipe with a lint-free cloth and maybe a go with a CD cleaner (if you have one) doesn't work, then you may have to get a replacement disc (a pain, I know). I suppose you could try seeing if the installer will work on a friends computer.

Re: MMF 2 Dev – CD 1 CRC Error?

    Thanks for the immediate answer!

The situation shocked me a bit but just got a call and it seems that the CD works without problems at my parents' place. There was one little scratch on the data side of the disc but apparently it was not the reason.

I am using a laptop so I wonder if the DVD drive is cause for the problems. Can't help wondering though why did CD 2 work without any problems. Anyway, I hope I finally get to install MMF 2 tomorrow.

Then there might be a solution... At least according to swedish laws (don't know aout other countires) you are allowed to make copies/backups of your cd's/dvd's... Then you could make an iso of it at your parents' and the use daemon tools to mount it on your laptop!

Re: MMF 2 Dev – CD 1 CRC Error?

Yes, it's a good idea to make backup CDs because I can't bear the thought of losing or forgetting my version of MMF somewhere. Not that I wouldn't try to be careful but still...

It seems that Daemon Tools is not free anymore but fortunately there's always oldversion.com. I was expecting some more new music files on the CD to use royalty-free but oh well, I will try to find someone to compose music should I ever finish anything remarkable.

Edit: I'd better change the CD case. I was afraid that I would cut the discs in two halves when taking them off the case for the first time.

Me too, it took me about ten minutes. It's an extremely sturdy case.

Re: MMF 2 Dev – CD 1 CRC Error?

Ermm..yet as an interesting bit of information. Got finally MMF installed thanks to the back-up CD. The installer started as soon as the laptop recognized the disc. It's really weird that the original CD 2 did work but CD 1 didn't, huh.

Anyway, the important thing right now is that everything has been sorted out <img src="/center/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
