MMF 1.5 on Linux Wine Seems to Work - does MMF2 ?

Just a note. I installed Mandriva 10 Free Version on an older computer and then loaded the MMF 1.5 CD using Wine. Installation went fine and program seems to run fine. I also loaded a MMF application .exe file and ran it using Wine on Linux also.

The programs ran slower but I expected that given it was a slower PC and I was using Wine as the emulator. I did set
Wine to emulate Windows XP.

I have not tested MMF 2.0 yet but will in the future.

No offense, but why are you posting this in the Multimedia Fusion 2 Technical Support forum, especially as a new post?

Also, running MMF 1.5 in Wine is pretty much known throughout the Linux Click enthusiasts.

Re: Running MMF 1.5 on Linux Wine Seems to Work

Well,

1. I have been following MMF for several years and I was unaware of its Linux status. I did a search on this forum for Linux and found nothing except for my posts and a request for MMF MAC support.

2. There's no longer an MMF 1.5 forum that I'm aware of and not everyone has decided to upgrade to MMF 2.0 yet. I'm waiting for Vitalize to be completed and for additional extensions to be converted to MMF 2.0 before I do.

3. I'm not sure what other existing post I would have attached it to.

4. Not everyone is an expert.

Sorry if this causes a problem. I just found it interesting and exciting to see MMF running on a Linux operating system.

One of the mods will probably (should probably) move this to the Old Products forums, since MMF 1.5 is now an old product

But while the topic is open: I'm planning to switch to linux soon, (removing microsoft entirely, so not even a dual boot) so do the compiled games and main extensions work under wine too?

Can't say at this point. It appeared the basic program and a basic application did run without a problem. My next step is to install and try MMF 2.0 and see if it runs.

Re: MMF 1.5 on LinuxWine Seems to Work-does MMF2?

I'm inclined to leave the post here, in this specific case It will encourage people to try MMF2 on Linux and report back. The answers will be of interest to many would-be purchasers.

Re: MMF 1.5 on LinuxWine Seems to Work-does MMF2?

Thanks Sarah, well here is what I have found so far. I was able to download the MMFDevDemo.exe (MMF Developer Demo) and install MMF 2 on Mandriva Linux using Wine. I was also able to create three test applications. The first was a basic form using static text, edit, combo boxes, etc.. and it worked fine. The second was a graphical app with three points and lines attached to each point forming an angle. I was able to move the points around and change the angle with no problem. Graphics looked fine. Last of all a simulation app using 20 balls on one side of wall with holes and 20 different balls on the other side of the wall. All balls were set to bounce in a random manner at start of frame. The idea was to see how long it took the balls to balance themselves out so that there were equal number of balls on both sides of the wall.

No real purpose for this last test but provided a lot of graphical action and would make a nice screen saver. Again I noticed no problems.

The only thing I noticed was during installation. As the files were installing the name of the files were like double printed in the dialog box and just a little offset. Not all text but just the ones above the progress bar.

Overall looks good for the tests I ran. A little slow but this I expected given the old computer I am testing on and also that I'm using Wine as an Windows emulator.

"and also that I'm using Wine as an Windows emulator"

heh, Wine stands for "Wine Is Not an Emulator" :P

It can cause some slowdown, but very little, it's likely that you're just limited by the age of the computer.

Anyway, good to hear that it works then. Now I just need some word on Jamagic and I can make the switch too

Anyone tried Jamagic on Wine?
