    Midi lags the game.

    I sure post alot of questions around here. Sry 'bout that. -.-

    I'm making a catch-the-falling-balls kinda game.I've added 3 midi files for the purpose of various music playing instead of only 1 that loops forever. So I've got an event that goes:

    When music isn't playing -> "Set Global Value A random(2)"

    And then some other events:

    Global Value = 0 -> "play music x"
    Global Value = 1 -> "play music x2"
    Global Value = 2 -> "play music x3"

    All of them also has a "Only one action when event loops" condition so that I won't be starting the song 300 times a sec or something.

    The thing is... when the midi is about to play, the game stops for like 1-2 secs. It's really killing the gameplay when one song ends and another is about to start.

    /Chris - The guy with too many questions...

    Hmmm, I thought they fixed this... A workaround is to have your midi files external and play them with the direct show object.

    Yes,play them external,thats help.Same happened in MMF 1.5.
    Something with windows to do.But MMF 2 is a bit slower to start to play the midis,than MMF 1.5.Yves know about the problem,I guess.

    That's midi for you. Midi isn't ment to be played as a song.

    It was orignally designed for carrying notes for use with Cubase, Fruity loops, etc.

    Overall midi is... rubbish.

    Use real audio - or something that IS designed to play. EG:Mod, mp3, ogg, wav(No compression so big filesize), etc.

    Re: Midi lags the game. bug R242

    I just ran a test, using "Music "FOSTER" has stopped playing and played another midi file.

    I found the second midi file refused to start playing and the application paused.

    I can confirm this is a bug in MMF2 runtime R242. The midi being loaded internally should run a lot smoother IMHO not hang for 5 seconds or more the application.

    This would change anything. It is not possible with Windows to play a midi file from memory (it would impply to rewrite a midi reader). So the internal file has to be saved in a temporary folder and played as a file, inducing the delay. THis is not a bug.

    And it's not possible to play the file in a different thread ? If this is the case, the application will not pause during the midi loading.

    Does it save all the including midi in the temporary folder at the start of the application or exactly when the music is called?
